Cheap Tour Trunk 2 Months ago
Is there anyway to reinforce a cheap tour trunk. Maybe some kinda a spray like Plasti-dip? I know you could use fiberglass, but would it be cost/time effective.

I don't think Plasti-Dip will do anything but color the trunk, no reinforcement value, like paint. There may be others here that can add something as some have worked on these trunks. I think fiberglass is the best bet besides investing in a better quality trunk.
I have seen a lot of Harley trunks for really reasonable prices on CL, but you need to take your time and do the searching.

You will need to use fiberglass or make metal bands to support the areas you want. Fiberglass would be much easier and lighter however. Plastidip is more just paint.

You could try this, one of our members posted this. I did something similar to mine. Looks like a lot of work, but it's not.

How about that pickup truck bed liner or a heavy coat of vehicle undercoating stuff?

OK, update on how to give your tour trunk the rigidity it should have! I stopped at a Line-X dealer near my house. He said if I would bring it in with all the hardware off when he was getting ready to do a truck or van he would line the tour trunk for $50.00. He showed me a aluminum soda can he had sprayed the exterior with the Line-X material. I could not bend the can, no matter how I tried. I think that will be strong enough! I'm going to have my trunk done next week, will post back the results.

I have had both of my truck beds x-lined. There is NOTHING on the market stronger!! My 240 lbs. could not crush a can sprayed with that stuff! I know it was not a trick cause I gave the guy the can of soda I had just finished. I was talking with the guy and asked him what kind of trick can they used on tv to show the stuff off with and he made a believer out of me. Its kind of rough, but if you wreck the bike the trunk will survive!

I thought it might be a little ruff. I'll ask the guy if he could smooth it some? He said it dry's really quick! Wonder what you could use to smooth the finish after it drys?
