Six Speed 4 Months, 1 Week ago
Referring to RoadieSL's topic on Cruising speed, does anyone know if there is a six speed tranny to fit our roadies?

That sure would be nice because at about 85 or so mine sounds like another gear would do the rpms a favor.

You have aftermarket pipes? I know they make it sound like you are rapping it out... long before you actaully are. At 85 you are just coming into the power band in 5th.

I agree with Wilburn. I'd like a 6 speed on mine also. I have a tach and if I could keep it running at 2000 rpm on the freeway I'd be happy. Problem is you're only going 60 MPH. At 85 you're turning 3000, which is only 1750 rpm away from the limiter. Kinda makes me nervous.

Why would it make you nervous? Thats power band on your 1700. Its not even working hard at that point. these engines are good past the rev limiter stage by another 1000 RPM. Seriously, at 3000 rpm, you are not hurting a thing. You are just coming to a point where the bike likes to run.

With all things remaining the same... droppping a sixth gear in the Roadie would turn it into a 112 MPH cruiser... I don't think that's "cruising" anymore...

What's the hurry? Slow down and enjoy the scenery.

I'm thinking making a 6 speed to fit and work would be a spendy proposition. I think it would be one of those things everyone says they want. And after someone figures it out and goes into production very few would actually buy it.

Re:Six Speed 4 Months, 1 Week ago
I personally would like a six speed. I do a lot of open road and the highway is 75 and most people are doing 85. And at 85 I would like to lower my RPM's a little. Maybe it's not hurting the bike but is sure would not hurt it to turn less RPM's.
