Referring to RoadieSL's topic on Cruising speed, does anyone know if there is a six speed tranny to fit our roadies?

That sure would be nice because at about 85 or so mine sounds like another gear would do the rpms a favor.

Unfortunately the R* engine and tranny are in one single case. No seperating one from the other. That type of mod would either be a case mod to chop off part of it and create mounting flanges for a tranny, or it would be a replacement for the internal transmission.

Why not move up to 33 tooth primary? Woould be a lot cheaper than custom fitting 6 speed tranny

85 mph makes me nervous..yep the wife would be jammin my ribs..

So...the old jab in the ribs is a universal sign for "stop that stupid". I am generally very conservative and careful when we ride, but every now and then I pretend I'm 20 years old and that generally earns me a jab in the ribs.

That's what I'm doing. Just waiting on my 33-tooth drive pulley to arrive. I tend to do longer rides and find that the most common speeds put me at the whiny side of one gear and the luggy side of the next one up. Hoping the new setup will let me stay in the lower gear for and increase the MPG a wee bit. I might be the rare one of the bunch here, because how quickly the bike jumps off the line just doesn't do it for me. Riding comfortably for 200-500 miles of two-lane in a day does, though, and saving a few pennies in the process on gas won't hurt either.

How much of a RPM drop would a 33 tooth pully have?

Heh, y'all think the Roadie revs high at highway speed take a VStar 1100 out for a ride... my dad's 5th is like my 4th gear. We should be happy And I agree, 65-70mph is a kick back with a hand on your knee kind of cruisin' speed.

If you want to fly instead of cruise..... Road Warrior is for you.

I know but it is not comfortable for the wife. Then no one will be jabbing you in the ribs to slow down.

Maybe you should look into a smaller Belt pulley for the rear wheel. You will lose a little on the low end but gain on top.

Yeah... A 6th would be nice (I too pull in the clutch from time to time, trying to hit that imaginary gear)
It's time for Dyna box,cams,pistons,etc.etc. and a 33 tooth!
