at 85 you're just crusin

Yep!!!

Reminds me of the Sammy Hagar song I can't drive 55!!! Maybe we should add a line to that song.... "I can't drive 55....I'd rather be crusin on my Roadstar doin' 85!!!

And yes, a 6th gear would be nice. I too am always reaching for that imaginary gear. I considered the 33 pully, but had concerns on how accurate the speedo would be then. Does anyone know?

I think a 33 might fix the speedo's on these later model Road Stars.

If you do 85 it doesn't matter how accurate you speedo is .... you're getting ticket.

The stock setups are about 5-10% off so going up one tooth gives you a more accurate reading.

You used to be able to pick up 33 tooth pulleys easily as folks seemed to switch down. You can't go any larger.

Difference in mileage .....

1600 = 33
1700 = 32

The 1600's also had wider pullies and a wider belt. 1600 = 1 1/2 inch belt. 1700 = 1 1/4 inch.

Re:Six Speed 4 Months, 1 Week ago
The R* gear ratios are 1st 2.438, 2nd 1.579, 3rd 1.160, 4th 0.906, 5th 0.750. Ratios for a Harley are 1st 3.24, 2nd 2.21, 3rd 1.60, 4th 1.23, 5th 1.00. 1.00 is direct drive, anything less than 1.00 is overdrive! A Harley in 5th gear and 2,000 RPM is doing 45 MPH. I don't know what the ratio is for a 6th gear Harley but it is over drive and people who have ridden one say it is worthless unless you are on the freeway and can do 85 or 90.
The Harley is doing 45 MPH at 2000 RPM, 60 MPH at 2666 RPM, 85 MPH at 3777 RPM. The R* is doing 60 MPH at 2000 RPM, 80 MPH at 2666 RPM. At 3777 RPM the R* would be doing 113.3 MPH. You notice that at 2666 RPM the Harley is doing 60 MPH whereas the R* is doing 80 MPH.
Since the Harley transmission is a separate unit it can be altered. They started out with 4 speeds and went to 5 speeds now they have 6 speeds. Since the R* transmission is part of the engine it can not be conviently altered, and if it was done I assure you that you don't want to pay the price!
