Seat Advice 4 Months, 1 Week ago
Hi all,

Looking for some wisdom from fellow riders on seats for my roadie. A while ago I bought a mustang seat because the stock seat just wasn't cutting it. Although I am very impressed with the workmanship and materials on my mustang, it has turned out to be less comfortable than my stock seat. Because it pushes me forward (which I don't mind), it feels like I am sitting on the edge of a bench, and the edge of the seat puts pressure on my sciatic nerve (which I do mind), so my legs go numb after I have been riding it for 90 min or so.

I am considering buying a Corbin dual tour seat to replace it, but am unsure because I have never actually sat on the Corbin that fits the Roadstar. Could those who have Corbin experience please tell me the good and bad of their experience with it? Thanks!!!

For background, I am considering the Corbin partly because of the integrated passenger backrest ... I have a Yamaha tall backrest on it now, but my wife doesn't like the gap between the back of the passenger seat and the backrest pad. I would love my wife to be happy so she will enjoy riding with me again.

Akela

Akela:

Seats are a preference thing.

Just like you, I was impressed with the looks and quality of the Mustang, but it did not get my wife over the 45 min barrier of riding w/o pain and I did not like the way it pushed me forward. I bought a tank bra to compensate.

Sooooo I sold my Mustang seat and purchased a Corbin Dual Touring Saddle. Love the seat and it lowered me into the bike as compared to the Mustang. It also moved me further away from the handlebars such that I had to tilt them downward a little to compensate. I no longer need the tank bra, but keep it on the bike for looks.

My wife can ride about 1 hr and 15 minutes w/o major discomfort. The gap between the back of the passenger seat and the Yamaha backrest is still there, but less than with the Mustang.

Once again, seats are preference thing, kind of like tires, oil, etc!!!!

The corbin is more of a pocket and the horn isnt real wide...so I think the pressure on the inside of yer leg would be less...

I really find my corbin comfortable...and I like the way it lowers me

If I am not mistaken ...the other seats maintain stock seat height....

My Corbin Stiletto sits nice,a bit lower, and it offers some back support that the stock seat didn't have. It is a bit narrower at the front, and so may allow/cause more forward movement. It's all how you're built and how you sit.
I have a 32" inseam, so the leg room on the Roadie has always been sufficient.

It'd be nice to be able to test-sit a seat before buying, As you know, it's what you like, and what makes you comfortable.

I can custom rebuild your stock seat, front and back, for $295 plus tax and shipping. How tall are you? Mark the areas of specific pain or numness in chalk and we'll change the seat pitch in those areas as well, no charge for a RSC member, usually $25-35. We mill out the top foam and replace it with a dry polymer product.

went to star days with my mustang seat. Really hurt my butt and lower back after a few hundred miles and the stops were closer and closer.
