Wide Open-- How fast will she go? 4 Months, 1 Week ago
I'm just curious here. I got a cruiser for crusing, but.....
I was about to be caught in one heck of a storm this evening comming home from work (pretty much all interstate). So, I did the natural thing; I tried to out-run it!
There was a tremendous head-wind, if I HAD to guess 25-35 mph comming strait at me. I had my bike WIDE OPEN and it was only doing 101 mph (with that serious head wind). I'm sure it'd go faster without that wind.
So, I'm wondering, is this all she's got? I had a Kawasaki Vulcan "Mean Streak" 1500cc and it would fly! I really don't like running fast. Typically 65 mph is fast enough, but I was in a hurry!
After all that, I still got wet!

I'm sure without a windsheild and a BAK or a Hypercharger it would go much faster. I'm just making sure she's not sluggish for some other reason. Response is awesome, but sometimes rounding out second she sounds like the valves are floating.....

The windshield, bags and back rest add to the drag on the aerodynamics and with that head wind I'd say over 100mph is pretty good. Glad you didn't get caught by Officer Friendly.

Thats true about the bags and windsheild, but I have to wonder even with the shield off, the air would still be blocked by whoever is riding...how much would that affect it vs. the shield

I think it might depend on big of a shield you have. If you have a small one (sheild that is) and tuck in under it it might help.

Bone stock 08 and I've touched 100mph... wasn't the end of it, but with a low center of gravity the bike felt like it was floating.. which is weird with almost 800 lbs crammed between your legs. That's with hard bags.. and I think I'd pulled my windshield off at that point, so I was running half naked. Topless, if you will.

Dan

p.s. javawave, I find your posts amusing

Cowboys like us sure do have fun, racin the wind, chasin the sun. We\'ll take the long way around back to square one. Today we\'re just outlaws out on the run. There\'ll be no regrets, no worries and such, for cowboys like us.

I had to get up to 90 to pass a tanker truck, i stayed in it until it got up to about 105. I ran out of nerve before it run out of go. My bike is stripped down with nothing but a sissy bar. It felt like it had more. roadhog1
