Broken Clutch Cable 3 Years, 10 Months ago
I had to go by the bank and the builders supply this morning and since it was cool out I decided to ride my bike. Made it to the bank fine but when I was pulling into the builders supply I felt my clutch cable snap. It was a bad time because everyone I knew to call waa at work so my only option was to wait until lunch or try to limp home.

I decided that if I went the long way I would only have three possible stops to have to make and if I was lucky I might be able to time it so that I didn't have to stop at all so I got a rolling start and took off. I actually made it all the way home without having to stop even once. Whew! I'm glad it didn't break Sunday!

Anyway, It got me to thinking that it might not be a bad idea to inspect your cables before you go too far and maybe even lubricate them up close to the lever once in a while.

Gonna rain this weekend so maybe it's a good time to do some specialized maintenance. Thanks for the reminder!

I had the same thing happen on the way to work a month ago. The cable popped at the lever-end just as I was getting on the freeway into rush-hour traffic. I quickly realized that I can shift without the clutch at freeway speed, and was able to get to work (25 miles) with only the stop at the top of the off-ramp. Getting home was going to be a different story, so I borrowed a car, ran home and got my OEM clutch cable, and installed it in about 5 minutes back at the office.

Learned a couple lessons: 1) No need to panic, 2) Clutch cables are EASY to replace, 3) hang onto any OE parts that you replace with fun stuff, and, 4)most dealers here in the area don't carry that part, so I had to order it and wait a few days

Stay safe!
