Exteneded warranty 4 Months, 1 Week ago
I never buy an extended warranty on any of my purchases but I did when i bought my new 07 Roadstar 6 weeks ago. I go back and forth in my head whether it's worth it or not. I think about cancelling than i say "what if". I had a 99 Roadstar that I rode for 4 years and never had a problem. I think I might of wasted money....but "what if".
Any thoughts?
Pat

I didn't bother ... but then I don't by extended warranty for anything either.

As far as the R* goes ... if it goes for the first year without a problem, it's highly likely to keep going for many more.

Got my 05 new 0 miles and thought about it then forgot about it. Glad I did messing with the dealer even under the 1 year warranty was a bunch of crap. All they did was take my money and not fix anything. I had to do it myself. Yes IMHO it is a waste of money.

1 month ago when i bought my 07 silverado, i bought 3 years plus the one that came with it.
i took the bike in 2 weeks ago for the first service ($210.00) w/ a list of concerns and got the standard "they all do that." ouch!

i don't think you have to go back to the same dealer though,
and also, the warranty goes w/ the bike, which will be good
when it comes to selling.

first extended warranty i ever bought-- i'm hoping it will help when i decide to sell it.

Why would you buy something like a bike just to sell it in few years (it is not a good investment) and having a little bit of warranty left will not increase the selling $$$ that much.

Cheers

I never buy extended warranties either because manufacturers spend tons of bucks testing their products, and they know on the average when it is going to start having problems. My dealer offered me an extended warranty that if unused I will get my money back at the end of the contract, sooooo I took the offer....Coug

Re:Exteneded warranty 4 Months, 1 Week ago
Up until recently I have never bought extended warranties for anything. I will stay that way for most purchases, however I learned a lesson about televisions.
I had a 52" RCA that crapped out on me 1 month before the 2 year warranty ran out. It was a huge deal because the place I bought it maintained it was a 1 yr, yet the manufacturer was 2 yr. Long story short, they gave me store credit to buy a new one (after 3 months in the winter with no TV). When I asked if a lot of people had problems with the big screen TV's, I was told that 1 out of 5 go bad. How's that for quality control? Hence on the second one I bought the extended warranty.

Sorry to HIJACK the thread, but it seemed appropiate to maybe warn others.

Re:Exteneded warranty 4 Months, 1 Week ago
i was first surprised yamaha only had a 1 year warranty. this scared me a bit.
the triumph i bought 5 years ago had 2.
it also isn't that much more money considering what the bike costs and the deal
i got from the dealer.

i guess my confidence in the bike wasn't that glowing looking back.
i'm not looking at the bike as an investment. when i go to sell it,
which might be a couple years, it will still have some warranty on it,
which i hope will make it attractive to a buyer.

my guess is i either will get a venture or a gold wing, but that's down the road...

my thought was i would ride this many, many miles and it would be peace of mind.
the yes program also gives you a $150 for inconvience if you break down,
which i supposed would be the tow... and a room.

boy i was wrong. i don't think the yammy dealers will really help unless the bike
just breaks down. my experience has been that they question my riding style, my expectations, and my knowledge of bikes. i own 5 bikes and 3 are 2 cylinder bikes. i work on all of them and know how they work and i've ridden bikes since 78, i still ride a bsa that leaks and rattles like a spray can.

my experience buying a new triumph was much different.
the dealer bent over backwards to help me out.
but i did not get the "they all do that you don't ride it right" canned response.
nothing really ever happened to the bike though, just minor noises and a squirt of oil here and there.
i did have an electric component go out just out of warranty, so this made me think i should get the extended time on the r*. one bad experience made me look at it different. even then, the triumph dealer sold me the part at cost.

i'm going to enjoy the bike and hope some of the vibrations tone down; i'll go to the dentist, and ride the star like hell.

Re:Exteneded warranty 4 Months, 1 Week ago
As a rule I don't purchase extended warranties for most items. I never purchase them for electronics or appliances. However, when it comes to vehicles I have started to make the investment. The cost to repair or replace parts can be so steep that a single trip to the shop covers the cost of the warranty. My experience with my Chevy Silverado pickup changed my mind about purchasing extended warranties. When I bought the truck I did not purchase the extended warranty. Unfortunately I had a couple things go wrong with the vehicle after the standard warranty expired.....cost out of my pocket was a couple grand. It's sort of a crap shoot....you never know for sure when purchasing the extended warranty will pay off. I'm not real experienced with repairs and don't have a lot of time to learn at this point, so most problems will find me bringing the bike to the shop. I suspect that plays into my decision to purchase extended warranties with my vehicles.

Re:Exteneded warranty 4 Months, 1 Week ago
I think extended warrantees are generally a waste of money, because if you read the fine print, they don't really cover much, (especially on electronics ... the extended warantee my wife bought on our daughter's ipod from Best Buy turned out to be worth less than the paper it was printed on ) and like Doc said, if it makes it past the first year without trouble, its probably going to be fine.

That said, I bought one on my wife's Toyota because of my concern for the electronics under the hood having problems, but we have had zero trouble with it. It was probably a waste of money, so I try not to think about it ...
