#105260 Bean Tickler (User) Fresh Boarder Posts: 12 MILLERS YAMAHA won't stand behind there bikes! 4 Months ago   I have another thread about my tank being rusted on my 07 R*. It wont let me post anything else in that thread for some reason. Heres the link http://roadstarclinic.com/component/option,com_fireboard/Itemid,187/func,view/id,104850/catid,58/ Anyhow I have talked to my dealership and yamaha corperate and both are telling me NO and that the rust is from neglect! The bike had 1400 miles on it when the rust started and only 9 months old! Anyways this post is to WARN all potential buyers of the loyalty or lack of loyalty you get from Millers Yamaha in Pennsylvania and Yamaha as a company them selves! Does anyone have any suggestions aside from me having to coat the tank? Any ideas on another way to go about this? Do I keep calling to try and get satisfaction? Do I stand in from of there building with a sign driving customers away? You're not supposed to leave it sit with half a tank. That causes condensation. Especially with ethynol gas. Sometimes "David" doesn't have a rock big enough to take on "Goliath". May be best to just fix it your self and go on. There is a myth that all tanks are "sealed" from the factory. To my Knowledge , only BMW actually puts a seal in their tank. You can use any number of products mentioned (I've Kreemed many old tanks) , but if you just see hints of rust (which BTW, would make me ill as well), just keep a full tank after each ride. If you ride daily , fill it every 2-3rd day. Petroleum in the fuel will keep rust at bay. Just a thought. If this is what I can expect to happen then this WILL be my last Yamaha... I have owned other makes of bikes that have never had full tanks to store and this never happened to them... Alcohol is a magnet for water. Put marvel Mystery Oil in the gas that might help keep it from rusting. If you clean & coat the inside of the tank there shouldn't be any more problem. I recently had a man come to my shop with the tank from a 2000 R*, it had a half dozen pin holes around the fuel valve. A good double dose of Kreem fixed him up.
