Oh yeah. I want to thank Canada for sending us the cold and snow today. Really enjoyed it.

You're welcome .... and as you like it so much I'll send more.

Just to clarify ....... Yamaha original transmission recall notice was for certain 2001 XV16 model motorcycles (R*s), and all 2002 and 2003 XV16 motorcycles. In these motorcycles, certain transmission components could allow abnormal wear that eventually results in a broken retaining circlip which could cause lock up.

I believe the serial numnbers of the affected bikes were:

XV16AN VP02E-012385 ~ 014775
XV16ANC VP02Y-001307 ~ 001456
XV16ASN VP02E-012461 ~ 014870
XV16ASNC VP02Y-001457 ~ 001706

It now appears that the rest of the VX16 bikes will also be covered under the original recall.

Thanks for clearing up my usual fog Doc. I couldn't remember if it was 01 and earlier or later so I just used it as an example.
That way I can be dumb and still sound like I know what I'm talking about Sort of.

A couple of other model questions:
According to the dealer and my registration, my bike is a 2004 Roadstar. Given that...
1.) Is there a way to tell the model by the VIN?
2.) When I asked my dealer for an owners manual, he said he did not have one, then later called me back and said he had one (the models on the cover are XV17AS(C), XV17ASS(C) & XV17ATS(C). Assuming that is the manual for the 2004 R*, it states that you can find the model number on a label on the frame under the seat. When I look at the label it says:
(a white circle) 5VN1-010
(a black circle) A

How the hell do you tell what model it is from that!!!

Thx Pop Rivet!
So per my last post, the "A" on the model label must = a plain ole Roadstar after you stip off S, SS or TS (which is not on the label ). Wonder if they could have made it any easier!
