Wrong Tire Size Sent 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Hello everyone! First post for a long time viewer here. I'd like to thank everyone for all the great help and tips I've read so far! My problem is, I ordered 2 new Pirelli tires from eBay. I've loved them on my cars. The re-seller shipped a 140/90-16 rear tire that had 150/80-16 stickers on it. Okay, if I figured it right, that means the 140/90 is 10mm taller and 6mm narrower than the 150/80. What to do? Try to get them to send the 180/50 and return the 140/90 or is it no big deal to run the 14/90 on the rear? Thanks! Mike

Yes .... the 140/90 is 1/2" larger in diameter than a 150/80.

You need to consider shipping ... who pays ... and then decide if it's worth it.

Thanks Doc. I'm waiting on a reply from the reseller. I think I'd rather have the recommended tire size on the bike. The sellers paperwork says they'll pay shipping both ways if they make a mistake. I'm just not a patient waiter and was considering using the 140/90 if it would work. Mike

Does anyone know if the 140/90-16 will work on the rear of my 2000 R*? The company I bought from said they sent me a return tag by email, but they did not. Now they want me to ship it back on my own and reimburse me the shipping. I'm afraid I'm going to end up with NO rear tire.

That tire will go on thhe wheel and on the bike with absolutely no problem. The numbers in your first post are backwards; 10 mm narower and 6 mm taller.

Thanks for the feedback Clifford! I was wondering if I was calculating the nnn/nn correctly.

I ran 140-90-16 rear for a while and had no problems at all. I took it off to put on whitewalls. I think it made the speedo more correct though most road* read fast. I would personally consider another 140-90 myself but just a disclaimer what you do is your own decision. My 2 cents.

My speedo is about 4 mph faster than my GPS indicates when going over 40. That's running the 150/80 tire. Interesting that it's a common trait.
