#108657 JavaBiker (User) Fresh Boarder Posts: 49 Stainless Steel Cables Rusted! 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago   My 06 is turning into a ratbike!!! The ss clutch cable is almost completely rusted and the throtle cables are just starting to rust. The only thing I can think of is that moisture is some how getting in under/thru the clear poly plastic covering. Kind of gives that golden rust color from a distance but the braid underneath looks OK. Platinum Boarder Posts: 2915 Re:Stainless Steel Cables Rusted! 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago   You get a cable lube (not being a smart ) it's a real tool.It attaches to the end of the cable and take the spray can of lube with the little nozzle and it attaches to the lube tool forcing lubricant down the cable. So just because it is stainless steel is no guarentee that it won't rust. How old are your cables? I put apehangers on a bike once that had the plastic coating turn yellow.
