Dumb Question 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Mama always said there's no such thing as a dumb question that you didn't know the answer to....
However, this may be the exception

Should I run on the reserve tank every now and again to flush out the fuel in that resivor or would it not make a difference?
I don't want any "bad gas" collecting in the tank....

The "main" and "reserve" are the same tank. The main just quits feeding an inch off of the bottom, then the reserve continues to the bottom. Since it is all one tank the fuel gets mixed every time you fill it, so there is nothing to worry about.

I run mine on reserve for 20 miles or so before a fill up. The fuel and water / crud may get mixed at fill up but they don't stay mixed. The Water / crud will sink to the bottom with the gas on top. Running it on reserve will help get the stuff out before you put fresh gas in. My op anywho.

Good to know.
Hey Musky, wouldn't that bad for the carb or something (if you suck out that stuff on the bottom)? I don't know, that's why I'm asking....

If you do it regularly you don't have much in there.

two schools of thought... Run on RES all the time, which you never have to play with it (though you should play with your petcock (did I really say that ) ocassionally so it doesn't get stuck that way). What do they say, use it or lose it? Problem with keeping it on RES is once the bike is out of gas, you're out of gas. By keeping it ON all the time you don't have this last risk and you still don't have to play with your pet cock but you may have that sediment building at the bottom of your tank. Bad habits are hard to die. I still try to shut off my bike with the key instead of the kill switch, but many times I still use the kill switch out of habit. Ideally, you should turn your petcock OFF when not riding. Again, another bad habit. I rarely touch mine unless I'm running low on gas or am removing the tank.

I agree with Musky. It certainly can't hurt to run on reserve just before the next fill up. Fuel filter should catch crud.

Why should you turn off bike with key v/s the kill switch (other than forgetting to turn key off and draining your battery, lesson learned hard way)?
And, why should you turn petcock OFF while not riding?

I run on reserve for about 20 miles after each fill.
