Would someone tell those engineers a Yamyhaw that they are supposed to use LocTite on the screws, not permabond! Did my AIS removal tonight, and took an act of congress to get some of the screws and bolts out. I even reviewed that "righty tighty, lefty loosey" thing just to be sure.

Oh yeah, when you take the tank off, there are 2 circular backets inside, that mount on to some vibration dampeners under the tank. As you take the tank off, you do not know they are there. When you put the tank on, and it does not go all the way down, then you take it off again, put it on again and it does not go all the way down. Then you have a long talk with yourself about why the heck you wanted to do this anyway............that's when you will find them.

Always best when touching any of Yammie's phillips screws ,,,,,,,DO NOT use an older screw driver,,,,,a perfect fit is essential,,,,,semi-new or brand new is best. Also a posidrive screw driver , although similar , is'nt a phillips and will strip out those superglued screws quickly and efficiently.

Post edited by: RoNNiE, at: 2006/10/21 22:06

Hey WhiteStar

Wait until you change the exhaust or try and take the floorboard bolts out. You've only got a taste of stuck so far. 2 words - Pencil torch.

So. You didn't know about the rubber dampeners huh? Tank don't go on worth a damn if you don't get them inside the flanges ya know.

Like Musky said the flooboards are put on with super glue I put the small Engine guards on my bike one side came off like it was finger tight the other I cut a gash in the head with a dremel and then beat it off with a mini sledge hammer and a chisel.....before that I used a torch and an air wrench.....Coug

Took the left (shifter-side) floorboard off when I did the chrome timing cover,,,,,,,,,used an allen driver a 3 inch extension and a 1/2 inch drive long ratchet,,,,,,,, came right off with a little effort. Have'nt had the need to remove the other side ....yet...... if it ain't broke,,,not gonna fix it. Maybe they ran outa superglue when they assembled my Star.... although the screws on the AIS sucked, almost striped one.
