Prices must be falling fast! 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
The used bike (and new) prices must really be falling. I listed my 07 Silverado with Megacone exhaust and the Ultimate seat for $7,000.00 and only one inquiry. Kinda sad when you think about it. I bought it only one year ago for $11,300.00, put $800.00 into it with the seat and exhaust and I thought $7,000.00 was pretty close to giving it away! What a shame.

Bike prices should be going up with the gas prices the way they are. Or at least holding some of their value. I guess it all comes down to supply and demand.

I agree, they should be going up. Unfortunately, people view bikes as toys and not viable transportation. With the economy the way it is, I think we will see bike prices continue to dip. I think scooter sales are up though. I saw a new '08 Roadie at the dealer for 11,099, FI and all.

I have said it before, with the dealers dumping previous year models that were still in stock for supper low prices, it just de values the used market. I see guys with 3 and 4 year old bikes asking $9,000. Its just not going to happen when you still find 05 and 06 models out there brand new for $7,000. Bike resale prices are way low right now and that probably isnt going to change for awhile. As for scooters, my brother has a bike shop here in Indiana, he is struggling to sale used bikes, but told me this week that he has been averaging selling 8 scooters a week since May. he is in a town of about 4000 people.

I'm seeing more scooters on the road here in SW Utah. It figures people are more likely to buy the cheaper scoots that are easier to operate. They don't look half bad either. If I didn't have my Roadie, I might've considered one of Yami's fancier scoots for around town. What am I saying??

You just have to find the right buyer they are out there list it on Ebay. I just sold an 05 FZ1 Yamaha sport tourer for $800 more then I paid the dealer out the door for it a couple months ago. I bought it used at the dealer though. Good luck with your sale!

With the economy down, gas up, and people wanting to ride but not having motorcycle experience, scooters are flying out the door. You don't need anything to run one, only have a drivers license and off you go after signing some papers. No helmet, no endorsement, nothing.
When I was in the mid west this summer those things were everywhere. Like cockroaches I say!!
One thing you have going against you is the glut of used Harley's on the market right now. If you grab a bike trader mag, 95% of the bikes in there are Harley's and the time of year.
If you can hang on till next spring, it will fly out the door as the scooter scum upgrade to real motorcycles. Most won't go for the Harley as its to expensive and unreliable.

I think you hit the issue on the head. In most areas of the country the arrival of winter means the end of the riding season and the need for another mode of transportation. For those of us in the north country, that means the need for a second vehicle and all the costs associated with owning that vehicle. Buying a R* to save a few bucks on fuel isn't going to make economical sense in most cases. Let's face it, bikes, like many other specialized vehicles (jeeps--got one of those too) are usually categorized as "I want" versus "I need" items. Those items are generally subject to a rather large depreciation as soon as they pull away from the dealer. When I bought my R* it was to satisfy my desire to have a new "toy". I love my new toy and don't plan on parting with it for a long time. If I have to sell the bike sooner than anticipated, there is no doubt in my mind that I'll lose a ton of money.
