Well, I had a "first" today . . . 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Been riding bikes since I was in my teens and I've always heard stories like this but never had it happen to me. Out for a ride on the scooter this morning when I got blindsided by something. Caught a glimpse of something big and black coming at me in my peripheral vision - then 'BLAP'. Hit in the temple by some kind of bug. Felt a little sting but assumed it was just from the impact. But it kept getting worse so I reached up and rubbed the area with my left hand. POW! Something stung the heck out of my ring finger, just up under my fingernail. Felt like I'd been shot with a nail gun. Quickly got to the shoulder of the road and set a new world record for getting a helmet off. There was a bumble bee that had gotten wedged between me and the helmet - high and behind the cheek bone. Ouch. Well, two miles up the road to the local WalMart where I picked up some cortisone cream and Benadryl. Took a health dose (Do not operate power equipment if taking . . . ) and headed the Roadie back to the house. Now I'm doing the 2-finger typing thing because the ring finger is swollen and hurts like heck. Think I'll let the Benadryl work its magic and take a nap now.

Anyway, anybody else have any tales of bugs in the helmet, jacket, shirt, or up the pants leg? I gotta tell you - that was an experience I don't want to repeat.

1st story:
One of my very first rides on a motorcycle and was nailed right between the eyes by a B-52 airplane while I was going about 70'ish...okay, so it might not have been a B-52...it could have been a beetle....but I still think it was (at the very least) some sort of small aircraft or UFO!

2nd story:
My wife and I were fishing with an old co-worker of mine. She didn't know him very well yet. But he is VERY much an old southern-style gentleman.
Meanwhile as we were fishing, she thinks a wasp has flown into her t-shirt...then under her bra.....and she's FREAKING OUT!!!! needless to say, he got a show and I thought he was going to get out of the boat and swim back to the dock! Very embarrassing moment for all!

My brother was riding his Electra Glide with a windshield and got hit in the eye with a June bug he believes. Scratched his corona, cost him about $800 bucks for emergency room care and he wore a patch over his eye for two or three days.

A buddy and I were riding our 305 Hondas on a back road in the 60s before helmet and glasses laws when he started weaving all over the road and braking to a stop. He finally got stopped on the side of the road and when I pulled beside him, he said "A bug hit me in my GOOD eye". Said he couldn't see anything out of the other one.

Just some of the reasons I wear a full cover helmet now.

Had a wasp go down the front of my shirt once at about 55 mph. It it me 5 or 6 times with me beating on my chest trying to kill it before I got to the side of the road. Not a fun experience.
