In the mid '70's I had either a bug or a boulder hit me almost between the eyes. This was back when I didn't use any eyewear.
On my trip up the Natchez Trace a couple of months ago, I was back via a state hiway. Just as I'm pulling up to a stoplight I notice movement on my chest. Biggest hornet I ever have seen. I brushed him off but he landed on the speedo. He finally decided to leave the area. I didn't get stung but I almost slammed into the back of a van while he had my attention.

When I was a boy and my buddy and I did a lot of trail riding, we were zipping along on a wide dirt road around 30mph, and he got nailed in the forehead by a dragonfly. Knocked his ass clean off the bike, backwards. It took me some moments before I could quit laughing, so I could ask him if he was okay. He was, except for wounded pride and a big red welt in the middle of his forehead.

Was following a buddy when all of a sudden he starts swerving all over the road and headed for the shoulder. Apparently a yellow jacket had hit his chest and fell in his crotch. When the yellow jacket woke up from being stunned he wasn't very happy and began stinging whatever was closest, and yellow jackets can sting more than once.
Myself the worst was a June Bug in the eye, got a nice shiner from it to.

I rode across the line up to GA. a couple of weeks ago, so I had on my full faced helmet. A covy of Bobwhite Quail jumped from the side of the rode and all but one went into the woods.
I didn't have a windshield so I ducked down and he hit the top of my helmet, while I was doing around 60mph.
TWACK! I looked in the mirror and there were feathers everywhere.
Look out in Ga., there are Kamakazi Quail out there!

Just last year my wife and I were cruising the roads of So. Oregon. She was riding her 500 Vulcan and was in front of me. Out of no where came a huge Eagle flying above us. As a was watching the Eagle fly between us, that crazy bird came down with it claws out and tried to grab my wifes helmet. We were doing about 40mph at the time. Holy Crap!, I laid on the throttle to catch up to her as she was laying on the throttle to get away from this crazy Eagle. This went on for about 1/2 mile or so. As I got a bit closer, I pulled the clutch and did the FULL THROTTLE to make some noise. The bird finally gave up and went it's own way. I know my wife is small, but I didn't think she looked like a field mouse! I still say the Eagle was on crack or something??? We still talk about how she got her scratches on her helmet...

If you live in Missouri and ride at night during the early summer you are going to experience some mean bugs. On my way to a friends house, we will just call it the farm in 1972, any way i had my Honda 305 scambler wide opened and and I could see from my head light I was right in the path of a June bug and could not get away. Well when I got to the farm my buddies see me and they started to laugh. As I reach for my forehead I feel goo coming down and thought I was bleeding. What i noticed was a hugh knot right in the middle of my forehead and a sticky substance. No blood just June bug goo. I have a jellow jacket story I will tell some other time.

I have been hit by a bug a time or two, but my biggest scare was an inanimate object. When I first started riding, I was headed into work one day and I passed a semi hauling a load of woodchips in the opposite direction. Somehow the wind caught one of those chips and flung it out of the truck ... smack into the center of my faceshield. (Thanfully I was wearing a full-face helmet) I was only going about 35 at the time, but it scared the heck out of me! I decided that day that I was going to always have a windshield on my bike!
Having only ridden in New England, I am not sure if its a problem anywhere else, but flying road objects are constant hazzard here year-round and my winshield has protected me more than once ... glad I have it!!
