ultimatre seat vs mustang 3 Months, 1 Week ago
The factory seat is certainly wide enough but a lower back support for me is needed. I see that Mustang and also Ultimate offer them. It looks like with mustang you do not have to change the rear seat to get the back rest but with ultimate you do. I like the way I sit now position wise relative to distance from the handle bars and am concerned that this may change if I replace the seat.

Looking at the two companies right now, which do you have , pros and cons on both. Would you switch on to the other and why?

Both will push you up a bit. If all you're looking for is a backrest, I think kuryakyn and possibly some other companies make that. I have the mustang. it is narrower. If I had to do it again, I'd get an ultimate, its got more cushion for the tushy. The mustang is pretty hard and gets uncomfortable pretty quick. If you do 400 or less per day, the mustang is a good seat. The longer you ride, the more uncomfortable it is. Not sure about the pillion. I got the mustang one; which btw, my wife loves (she hated the stock seat). The mustang converts with the 3 piece set. You can ride solo or with the pillion.

I had the Mustang, like slyguy said it's firm and was okay for a couple hours but after that it didn't work for me. Sometimes I could feel the backrest support bar where it went into the drivers seat, got irritating at times. Some folks have zero complaints. Have the Ultimate now, fits me pretty good and can go for much longer. Wife likes the pillion of both over the stocker. The Ultimate isn't waterproof like most seats, something else to think about, but they do sell rain covers.

Keep in mind that any aftermarket seat is going to change your position vs. the stock seat and the most important thing.....a cinder block would be more comfortable then the stocker.

Jersey Rider, Both copmanies make a deep dish seat. Des at Ultimate makes the deepest seat and is great to work with if there are any challenges that come up. Mustang seems to not care once they sell a seat. I've never had to rebuild an Ultimate seat for additional comfort, I've had to rebuild many Mustang seats.
If you want your seat deeper I can lower it approximately 1 inch for better back support, and make it far more comfortable for about $185 plus tax and shipping. My bike pictured has had the seat lowered, thigh channels added to keep you snug in turns and stops, and moved back 3/4". I can keep you in the same position, move you back, or move you forward. All by recarving the stock foam and replacing it with a polymer. www.buttbuffernfl.com.
I just bought and installed a backrest from a guy who makes them and then sells them on Ebay. Good product, $90, easy to install.

I've had both and both are good seats. The passenger seat on the mustang seems more comfortable that the ultimate. At least my wife thinks so. I like the ultimate for the driver better. One of the big things on the ultimate is that they are seperate seats. Your ultimate will come off with a turn of the key to access the battery and tool kit. The Mustang is one piece and you need a wrench or butterfy nut on the rear to be able to gain quick access to under the seat.

The seat does put you a little forward so you might want to think about moving your floorboards forward for more comfort.

I don't know about the Mustang or the Ultimate seats. But I did have a gel pad installed into my stock seat on my '07 Roadie and WOW!!! what a difference. I can ride all day now and no hot spots on my butt. I had it done at the Muskegon, Michign bike week.
