GunHead, glad to hear you're OK. Had several band panic stops like you described. Had one bad fall and slide with the bike on top of me. Chaps saved me from road rash and burns. The entire rear-end of the pair of blue jeans I was wearing was burned out. Good thing I wore my jockeys that day. My paasenger had no gloves on and lost some palm on both hands. I always make passengers ride with gloves now.

Good deal, Papa Bear. I'm thinking that when I get around to carrying passengers, they are going to be wearing long pants, a jacket, helmet, and gloves, or else they aren't getting on the back of my bike.

Glad you were ok. I laid my R* down about a year ago with no jacket on now I have a nice scar on my forearm to remind me to get my jacket no matter what. I just went and bought a summer jacket (joe rocket) that is mesh with the armor in it. Its almost like riding with just a tee shirt.
I feel sorry for the guys I see riding with shorts, tank top and tennis shoes cause one day it will be their bad day.

As the saying goes....Sweat wipes off, Road rash doesn't! That's the bad thing about all of these mopeds out there now. I see all of these people with T-shirts,flip flops, shorts. They're going to be in a world of hurt when the day comes that they hit the ground.

well not even an hour ago on 35w, We went from 65 to 0 rather quickly. This was the first time I have locked up the brakes on my roadie. By the grace of God I kept the bike straight, but it was a real eye opener. I could feel the back end wanting to come around. I even managed to clutch correctly because I didn't stall...whew...
I do have to share an incident I wad in the other day. In my line of work I drive all day in a delivery truck. To make a long story short I was speeding up to a stop sign to make the light. I did stop, but a lady on a scooter whom I did not see until I stopped locked up her brakes and the scooter literally threw her off. I stayed with her until her husband came. I am fortunate that they were both nice people. Technically I have no fault, because I didn't hit her, but I know that if I had driven correctly she would not have fallen. She had her helmet and jacket on, but no gloves. Needless to say she did cut her hand. I offered her my gloves to wear, but she had hers in the scooter.
It seems so easy to finger point, but being on both sides I can truly say I feel awful about being the "bad guy"

Re:Near Miss And Lessons Learned 3 Months, 1 Week ago
My wife had to take a shuttle yesterday to go up north and see a specialist while I stayed and made a living. The 74 year-old driver was a part-timer who needed something to do. On the way up they spotted a herd of bikers heading southbound on I-15. She said, "Harleys?", and he thought they could be, until they got closer. "Nope, not Harleys. They're wearing helmets."

A few nights ago she had finally worked up enough courage to ride with me (she's been afraid of riding bikes from a really bad past experience as a teenager). I'd bought a helmet for her a few weeks ago. She was dressed for the ride and loved it. I think I finally have a riding partner.

Good to hear you're still with us Gunhead.
