I came off a GS1100E and had the same issues for a while...I did change my style a bit when on the R* and the scrapes are few and far between now Just remember now you swoosh, not cut

You'll be fine...I say three months and you'll be loving this bike!

Thx Musky, appreciate the follow-up. I am also pushing 6'4" with long legs, sounds like the extensions may be a good add-on. Heck this bike rides so comfortable that it feels like a recliner on wheels , may as well get the legs stretched out some. Still try'n to get the bike comfortable and look'n good (my bike is also a white R*, they look so darned good anyway ! Heck, I just got rid of a 1936 Dodge Brother's Coupe with a Plymouth 383 in it because it was a money pit, looks like I just found something else to spend money on!

Hey bluezdawg

If you don't have the tools / place to make your own I can recommend the ones this guy makes. I bought mine from him. You will probably have to wait because he always has a waiting list. He should get more made each time I think. He can't keep up. They have a slotted hole so you can adjust the tilt to what is comfortable for you. As soon as I put mine on I put them on full tilt and haven't needed to change them so I don't know how they feel at different levels. They move the boards forward 3 inhes which doesn't sound like much but it is.

You can find ext's other places too.

If you do get the ext's I would recommend you cut half the lenth off your brake pedal or get a pedal from an 1100 VStar and put it on. The tilt and the stock pedal kinda traps your toe.

BB-

Welcome to the forum! While these may not be fully adjustable like the ones Musky was referring to, these might be of some help...they move the boards forward 3" and increase tilt angle to 10 degrees. I seem to be the "short" one in this group at 6'2", but I'm going to pick up a set myself...for the price, what the heck!

And I scrape the boards fairly often...scared the crap outta me the first time I did!

Again, welcome and enjoy this great group!

Roadkill, looks like my next step is to unload these roadhouse pipes (2/1 design) and find something that doesn't touch the ground so easy because these babies have become my "curb feelers" since installing those forwards

Post edited by: Big Bear, at: 2006/10/24 23:20

Bear--

Them's some expensive curb feelers ya got there...maybe if we just drove really slowly and never took turns at more than 10 MPH?

Wait just a minute - I am a noob here, and as I just bought myself an '05 R* recently and had the same problem, I might have thought of something that the experts have overlooked.

I had a '95 Shadow Ace 1100 that I rode with with a bunch of sportbike riders, and gave them a good run for the money - one of the reasons I chose the R* when it was time to upgrade was that by all accounts it is one of the best and most predictable bikes of its class in the twisties (there are lots of mountains close to here ).

Anyway, I was scraping on everything, and it was ridiculous - the stealer had no idea, so got underneath and had a look: it was scraping as much on the frame as on the floorboards - this can't be right. So I downloaded the manual and studied. Checked the setting on the preload of the rear shock, and found that it had come so loose that it was at the end of its travel! Adjusted it to the minimum, locked it in, and went to the mountain!! It took quite a while of riding to break a habit of creeping around the corners that had taken a short time to develop, but now I am back to giving the crotch rockets a hard time in the mountain passes, and never, never ground my boards in the parking lot any more.

Hope that this is all your problem is,

Best regards,

That's easy for you to say, you have a pegleg!! That's gotta weigh a good 40-50 lbs. less than mine (trust me on that one) . Thats actually my next move, run the rear shock up to the appropriate setting for my weight and riding style (big and spirited). My R* is still at factory setting ,which according to the owners manual is set on the soft side. Oh well, sooner than later I guess.
