The Stebel horn.... 3 Months, 1 Week ago
My Stebel paid for itself yesterday. I was riding through town at about 30 mph in moderate afternoon traffic in the left lane when a big triaxel dump truck decided it would come over into my lane just as I was passing it... and leaving me with no where to go but over a double yellow line and into oncoming traffic. No signal or anything - just starts drifting over; I gave him two long bursts on that stebel but the first one was all it took... man, he jerked that thing back to the right into his lane and when I pulled up along side of him... he gave me that "sorry man, I didn't see you, I'm sorry...." look and gesture. I could tell that he was relieved that nothing happened; no more so than I! By the way, I kind of think he looked a little perplexed that I was a motorcycle and not another huge truck - from the sound that Stebel made!

Glad to hear it works good. But even better that the other driver heard you!

Mine is on the way. Did you mount it in the same place as the stock horn or did you mount it elsewhere?

Not trying to stir the puddin' here or anything, but I would bet money that no matter how loud your pipes might have been, they wouldn't have saved you from that bad situation! Those horns are amazing for the amount of sound they produce. I'll be getting one for the wife as soon as she starts riding on the streets.

Glad you got out of that with only the satisfaction that you made the right decision on the horn and not something much worse!

I have one and its a true life saver. Unhook your horn some day and drive around knowing you have no way to warn people and you will soon realize you haevily depend on having a horn available.
since you are going to have a horn dump the two stock one's. Where the rear one was I put a chrome breather for the carb and ran a line to it.
I bent a small bracket up and attached the Stebel to the front motor mount behind the footboard right tight to the frame. It's mostly hidden from view but perfect location for making noise! My wife says its obnoxious which tells me its just about right.....

Hey Scotto,

I mounted it by fabricating and bolting some flat stock to the front horn mounting area. Sets right next to the frame, just behind the Yami big bars to the inside of the floorboard. run the wires in black flex tubing under the frame and put the relay on the left sie of the bike under the seat.

Black flex tubing... nice touch. Keeps it clean looking. Thanks.

Hey Lakecharles
The Stebel horn is one of those things you take for granted, and forget it's even there, until you need it. A couple months ago it saved me twice in the same day. One was south of Ardmore, OK a little after daylight. An 18 wheeler did a U-turn and didn't see, I laid down on the horn, and he slowed enough that I was able to hit the shoulder upright. The other was about dusk going through Jackson, MS that evening. It had just started a light rain, and where I-20 and I-55 merge, traffic was heavy and no holes available, but a car merging from I-55 decided he would take my spot. I had nowhere to go, so laid down on Stebel horn again, he honked back at me, but gave way. A loud horn is one of those safety items we all need!
I think my bike is pretty visible from the front and rear, but I need to work on the visibility from the side. Probably go with some lizard lights, so they can see me before I have to bark at them, but until then, my Stebel does a good job keeping me alive.
