Oil? 3 Months, 1 Week ago
|
|
I have no idea what it is called, but it is located behind the rear exhaust pipe and is kinda shaped like the Darlington NASCAR track . I was told that I need to change the fluid there, if that is correct. What type and weight oil do I need and what is that thing called? Another guy at work said it was the transmission. Is that right?

That is the drive chain cover for the jack shaft. The jack shaft is what powers the belt drive for the rear wheel. How many miles do you have on your bike?

I have 24,000 miles. I should have changed it a long time ago according to a few articles I have found on here. When the bike was purchased from the local dealer, I asked what all i needed to change out, as far as fluids go and that was never mentioned to me. I am going to get the stuff tomorrow to change it. Can anyone tell me how much i need to get and about how much it will cost?

Easy rider look in your manual it takes no more than 10 min to do it.. There is a 12mm bolt at the bottom of that cover, put the bike on the kickstand with a couple 2x4 nailed together to get the bike as even as possible.. Take that bolt out oil will drain out into your pan.. After it drains put the bolt back in , open the big circle flat head nut on the case there (with a silver dollar or a big washer) pur in .43 of a quart.. If you get a ratio cup from a bike shop ($2.00) just fill it to 400 CC's very easy to do this. I do everything with a ratio rite and use CC's (cubic centimeters)
here is a conversion chart
