New Tire "Wiggle" 3 Months, 1 Week ago
Hey guys,
I just recently had my 20000 mile service done and while there, the "stealer" correctly informed me that I needed a new tire. I had been hoping to put it off just a bit longer so could replace both back and front together as I replaced the rear at about 12000 but they were right so I got a new Dunlop 404 front tire.
Here is my question...I now have a bit of a "wiggle" for lack of anything else to call it where the bike will tilt just a little bit off verticle...back and fourth...nothing major, but the handling is definately differant and noticable. I have the once replaced (same as origional stock) Bridgestone on the rear, and now have a Dunlop 404 on the front. Realizing they are different manufacturers, I didn't expect be this to be that different in handling. Should it subside as the tire wears, or should replace the rear (which would be early next season) to a match or take it back.
Actually, I thought it was going to be another Bridgestone, and was surprised when it turned out to be a Dunlop. It holds the road real good in the turns, just "wiggles" when upright tilting left and right;
Pressures are good, tire is mounted in the correct direction of rotation.
Anyway, would appreciate your insight into mixing and matching.

Hey cass
Had the same thing happen to mine a few weeks a ago. I had both of my D404's replaced with Dunlop Cruise Max's (D405) right before I left out on a two week trip. I had that little back and fourth weave feeling in mine also. It was worse when I was loaded down with gear, or pulling my trailer. Turns out they didn't get it balanced correctly. It felt just like a car when the front end wonders. Not sure if this is your problem or not, but sounds like what mine was doing.

Cass, we've had quite a few threads about this issue and I have yet to see any difinitive answer. Coachdan's answer is the closest I've seen yet.

I had the wiggle at low speeds from day 1 up until I changed out my front tire. I'm still not sure why it went away, 'cause I put on the same make/model tire again. This particular wiggle seems to not be related to the forks or bearings, just the tires themselves. That being the case, I'd recommend following up on Coachdan's assessment and get you wheel balance checked.

Let us know if that takes care of it! I don't have the problem now, but, what the stealers have been telling us is; 'hold onto the handle bars'.

Hey Cass, I'll bet ironman's beer the problem is that your wheel is not balanced correctly.
I had the same problem before, installed new tire and everything was fine.

Thanks for the replies guys, sorry took so long to get back...had company. I'll give it another week and see if milage helps, if it doesn't, think I'll take it back and have them check the ballance. The guys i have working on my bike seem to be pretty up and up. No problems with them so far in 20000 miles. I'm halfway to another oil change anyway....I'll ask them then if it doesn't clear up.
Apreciate all the input.

Insufficient tire pressure in the rear tire will product that 'wiggle' at highway speeds.
