You choose, you loose. Its not that hard.
Think I'll get any response to the truth??

So let me get this straight to your truth!! If I'm out there riding my motorcycle without my helmet and some jackass decides to cause me to wreck, I should not get any help because I wasn't wearing a helmet?? 96% of motorcycle accidents are caused by drivers in cars!!! So if its not the motorcyclist fault why should we be made to suffer???? Perhaps your in your car and some piece of crap decides to car jack you and smashes your head in or shoots you, I guess you should have to suffer cause you chose to not lock your doors and protect yourself Right???? This argument could be taken in to many other areas in life!
My choice is to not wear a helmet. I have been doing that for 40+ years. I wear one in the states that require it or when I was younger and was drag racing motorcycles I wore one but other then that I prefer to not. I feel everyone should have that choice. And I will be D***** if someone will tell me I should suffer for that choice if it wasn't my fault!

Tell us how you really feel buddy, don't hold back like that

I took a little offense at that post too hardone2get. I figure everyone has an opinion, and I am not going to agree with some of them. So I don't let them get to me too much.

My $.000002 . It should be an individuals choice. I always recommend the highest safety adherence to others as it would be unresponsible not too, and I don't want there accident/injury on my conscience. I also like riding without a helmet, so take that any way anyone wants too.

I think we should have a choice. But going to stay out of this one. You guys slug it out if you want to, but no one is going to change their mind over a forum argument, and all the participants just end up upset about it. The first question posed was a good one. Lets remember we are each entitled to our opinions on this issue and try not to insult those who might NOT share ours.

END OF My $.000002

Your right. I should have held back but it's not in my nature. Sorry!
My biggest problem was the statement that people should suffer for choice!!

I think helmet laws are a good thing, same as seatbelt laws. I know, I know, we don't need "Big Brother" telling us what to do. I would agree with that, if the world wasn't full of dumb *****.

With every choice comes a consequence, good or bad. Whether it's wearing a helmet, drinking then driving, what color to paint your house/bike/cat or what have you. Any decision we make will somehow affect someone down the road. You can't make right choices all the time but you, and sometimes others, live with the results. M2CTS.

No one should suffer for thier personal choice. That being said we all need to be accountable for our choices.

This whole topic comes down to being a big spitting match for political beliefs. Everyone here must know in thier heart that wearing proper safety gear is the right thing to do for ourselves health wise and our families emotionally.

I really have to wonder just how many people do not wear helmets just to make an anti establishment point?

Another way of looking at that is that the world would be less full of dumb *****'s if we didn't have helmet and seatbelt laws.

I figure it all comes down to personal preference and assumption of risk.

In Canada you must wear a helmet and the reasons are similar to the above statement.

We have a publicly funded medical system and the one of the reasons that the law exists is "it's justifiable in terms of the benefit that society gains in possible reduced health costs and the possible loss of people's loved ones" vs the loss of one's rights.

BTW ... since 1995, my province also has a bicycle helmet law for those 17 and under.

My original launching of this thread wasn't quite as philosophical/political as it's become here, but since that's where it's gone, consider this:

Everything's relative. If you were to tell my 78-year-old mom how responsible you are by wearing helmets and other safety gear, she'd reply that if you were really responsible, you'd never get on that cycle in the first place. Fact is, riding motorcycles is a hobby with great danger potential, helmet or not. There's no totally safe way to do this. But we do it anyway, don't we? Safety measures are all a matter of degree, and are subject to your own general outlook on risk vs. reward.

All right, all right... I've stayed away from this thread long enough...
I have no less than five helmets and my wife has two... But, there are only certain times ment we choose to wear them...
Why, you ask? (well, maybe you didn't, but I'll tell you anyway...)
Down here, in FLA, the helmet law reads; Persons under the age of 18 and those over the age of 18 and who carry less than $10,00 of medical insurance coverage are required to wear a helmet...
Now, rewind to 2003, when I used to live in Connecticut... (A helmet law state...) There, I had my trusty old classic "Bell"... (Looked like something out of the "Fireball 500" movie.
Further back, (in years), I visit my brother in FLA and borrowed one of his bikes... another helmet. (Back when FLA had a helmet law...)
Then, I went to New York on vacation once, found a great deal on another scooter... so, of course, needed a helmet... And, finally... (bet your glad to hear that!)last week I was driving home from my wife's school, and the skies opened up... (TS Fay was in town and me without a helmet...) I couldn't see my headlight in front of the windshield! Which leads me into my personal helmet policy... I'll wear one under the following situations... Where they're required, in the rain, during my commute on the highway, during work when I use my bike to make trips... Otherwise, I go lid-less
Oh yeah, Last weeks helmet... a "full face" number from Wal*mart... Hey, they work great in the rain!
