Just a thought here should people in convertible and T-top be required to wear a helmet. I have seen many leave the car or be crushed. Even in a car head strikes are common. I have a choice and would not make fun of someone who choose to wear a helmet and on rare occ. I wear one. When law states I must. My biggest problem is not having a choice because of special interest. A bunch of data that is twisted to serve their purpose.

How about we look at it like this, how would you feel if they put a seat belt and roll cage on motorcycle because a special interest felt it would be in our best interest. If I wanted to be in a jeep I would but I know there is a risk.

Live and let live with in the law. You can always change law if you have enough pull money and lobbyist.

peace to all

JEEEEESH! When I first started following this post I thought it was just a survey but it seems to have turned into a place where tweaked nerves rant on, not so much about their choice, but their right to choose. Stating your reason for choosing one way or the other is one thing but putting down others for their choice is ........well you get the point.

I, too, have as big of a mouth as you do Mark7 and STFU is EXACTLY what I tell people here and in real life that think they can push their ridiculous, outlandish, and just plain stupid reasoning for opinions onto me. In that regards, we are more similar than not. (That alone should scare you more than my helmet laws opinion.) And, quite frankly, if the mods of this forum want to ban me for that, than so be it.

I don't make fun of you as the 'Dark Knight'. I just feel sorry for those like you in the heat. More so for your thought process about such things. Maybe you should just turn in your licenses and keep your family in a safe room (in full riot gear) instead of being so fearful. To me, it screams Nazi-ism when people base strong opinions on fear.

You can't even take your own advise and agree to disagree and walk away. But, instead, post a pic of crotch rocket accident (that NONE of us here drive) which probably has statistically less than 1/1000 of 1% chance happening (and that's not even to your or my family combined) and then proceed to grind your own jaw down w/o the asphalts assistance. That is the truest definition of fear that I can think of.

Freedom of choice is what this whole helmet law thing is all about. Did/would I wear one even if the law allowed me not to? Absolutely. Especially at highway speeds. yeah, I've been hit with all kinds of things at those 50+ speeds and it ain't fun. When I went down, one of the first things that went through my mind (and, no, it wasn't my asshole) was, " I can't imagine that happening at 70mph."

Your whole point about helmets affecting others is agreed with. Plain and simple. The reasoning (or lack thereof) is not. I think deep down inside, your fear is for your family losing you more than others harming them. And that is what you should say instead of having the negative outlook of 'if it can happen, it will happen'. I will pray for you anyway.

PEACE

I dont see a problem with discussing it as long as people can keep an open mind. It's not a federal law, so its all going to depend on where you live anyway

I think helmets are a no brainer, as i said, like seatbelts, speed limits, and everything else that protects yourself and others. If the government feels its their job to step in and enforce it, so be it. If the world was full of smart people 95% of what the government did would be for naught.

Since you had the last thing to say I want to bring up something one more time that I got no repsonse to!
On countless occasions the Government has ordered defective autos and trucks recalled. But last week Jan 11, 1988 the Justice Department, backed by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, went a long step beyond that. In an unprecedented action, it outlawed future sales of an entire mode of transportation: three-wheel all- terrain vehicles.

The rugged gasoline-powered machines, which also come in four-wheel models, look something like a cross between a motorcycle and a dune buggy. Costing an average of $2,000, they can cruise up to 50 m.p.h. and negotiate some of the toughest terrain around, from sand dunes and rock-strewn hills to marshy lowlands. They are also exceedingly dangerous. Nearly 7,000 people are injured in ATV accidents each month, and an estimated 900 people have been killed over the past five years. Many of the victims are young children, who do not need a license to drive ATVs because they are designed for off-road use. The ATV manufacturers, which include Honda and Kawasaki, agreed to the ban but continue to insist that the bikes are safe if ridden properly.

As stern as the Government's action was, ATV critics are not satisfied. Consumer groups and some Congressmen contend that Washington should recall all of the 1.5 million three-wheel ATVs still in use in the U.S. and force manufacturers to give purchasers a refund. Says James Florio, Democratic Congressman from New Jersey: "How can anyone truly concerned with safety in effect say 'Tough luck' to people who currently own these unsafe vehicles?" Government officials defend their action, maintaining that a recall would cause a lengthy court battle.

So anyway you made the statement (If the government feels it's their job to step in and enforce it, so be it!
So then your telling me the government in their infinite wisdom should decide for me that my motorcycle is no longer safe and that I should not be able to purchase another one that's OK? I think not!! Again this boils down to FREEDOM OF CHOICE! If you let the government have to much control of our freedom of choice were else will they go and what other stupid laws will they come up with.
You personally said that there are a lot of stupid people in the world and that's why the government does what they do with laws. Well guess what I think a lot of those same STUPID PEOPLE ARE RUNNING OUR GOVERNMENT!!!!!!!!!
And I for one will continue to fight for my FREEDOM!

I used to own a three wheeler I have no problem with them being outlawed. I can't tell you how many times i crashed mine. If you've ever ridden one you'll know why they were made illegal. Lots of things that harm people are illegal. Not just vehicles. You have to remember there are millions of people out there that the government has to protect YOU from.

I think freedom of choice is great, until your choice affects my life But as been stated thats just my opinion. I'm not that worried about the government. I'll just move when I decide I don't like it here lol.

3 wheelers are dangerous and a lot of people got hurt on them. I know you will say it was the stupid people that got hurt, and for the most part thats true, but it was also stupid peoples kids. I know you want freedom of choice but where does it end? Who draws the line in the sand? Stupid people ruin a lot of things. It's because of stupid people I can't talk on a phone and drive. It's because of stupid people I and my kids can no longer go to the caves we use to go to, someone got hurt being stupid and now nobody can go there. I do want you to know that I respect your view, and as long as you live where it legal to ride with no helmet it is your choice. The flip side of that coin is if the federal govt. passed a law requiring helmets I wouldn't be sad in the slightest.
