Amazing......so if the government feels they should step in and enforce something then we should accept it without question? and this reasoning is because you believe that 95% of the world isn't smart enough to make their own decisions? Well I'm not smart enough to know if I should eat a high fat hamburger tonight for dinner. Should I call the government in Washington to ask? There's lots of evil that I'm thankful our government protects ourselves from. Coincidentally, I don't believe that I am one of those evils. Let me protect me from myself.

I dont see a problem with discussing it as long as people can keep an open mind. It's not a federal law, so its all going to depend on where you live anyway

I think helmets are a no brainer, as i said, like seatbelts, speed limits, and everything else that protects yourself and others. If the government feels its their job to step in and enforce it, so be it. If the world was full of smart people 95% of what the government did would be for naught.

Isriam, at what point does the government go too far? You must think the government does a good job and that no matter what they do, its right? The people of WW2 Germany thought the same thing too.

Instead of passing dumb laws like this, they should be focusing issues that affect "the people"; like reducing crime, improving roads, improving schools, saving tax payers money by not passing stupid laws , etc. Things that affect the masses. Instead it takes cops off patrol to find the biker not wearing a helmet, when they could be doing things to truly help society.

Common sense to wear a helmet, but a law to protect us from the outlaw helmetless bikers?

Ban fast food restaurants, portion control at restaurants, food control at grocery stores and at your dinner table, alcohol (tried that), tobacco (working on that)? If I choose to overeat, develop heart disease and die, who's fault is it? If I drink alcohol, develop sclerosis of the liver and die, who's fault is it? If I smoke, develop lung cancer and die, who's fault is it? If I choose to not wear a helmet when on a motorcycle and die who's fault is it? So what's a bigger burden on society, the biker who wrecks and dies at 35, the smoker who dies at 62, the unhealthy eater who dies at 54 or the 98 year old who's been living on social security and government assistance for the last 30+ years?

If I wear a half helmet, get smacked in the face by flying debris off of a truck and it kills me, though a full face would've saved me, would you outlaw half helmets? If it strikes me in the chest, are you going to require body armor, if it strikes me in the arm and I lose control are you going to outlaw bikes completely? How about outlawing debris!

If my choice doesn't physically harm someone else, which in all practical reasoning, not wearing a helmet wouldn't, why pass a law against it?

I'm sure I've convinced people to my point of view now.

Time to let this subject cool off for a while.

Sincere thanks to all who took the time to present their ideas and opinions, without demeaning others who did not agree.
