Windshield Adjustment 3 Months, 1 Week ago
I was wondering how high most people set their windshields. Do you look through or over the top of the windshield? I have mine set so I look just over the top of the windshield. With that setting I still get a fair amount of wind buffeting despite the use of Buck's lowers. I've used my hand to check and am pretty well convinced the source of the wind is coming over the windshield and not the sides. I've tried adjusting the tilt of the windshield and while tilting it forward helps, it does not eliminate the problem. Under some conditions the constant buffeting on the top of my helmet can really get to be a drag. I've lowered my head just to see what it would feel like to be completely behind the protective bubble of the windshield and I have to admit it feels nice, but I also like the view when not looking through the windshield. Is this the trade off I'm going to have to live with or are there other things I can do to correct this situation?

Thanks.....Yakman

I look through mine, not great for riding in the rain but with our drought it rarely rains here anyway.

Well, Yakman, I have the 21" Memphis Shades and adjust mine all the way back to be able to look over it so I don't have to try and stop to readjust it when I get caught in any sudden, passing rain storms (ofwhich were happening on pretty much a daily basis around here this summer). They really don't believe in shoulders under over passes and that really stinks for bikers in the rain. I also remember seeing/reading that that is the recommended way to purchase a w/s ... below your line of vision.

And all it takes to really appreciate your w/s is to remove it altogether and go for a few higher speed rides. What a difference it makes. I love those 50mph and below rides w/o it, but you can keep those turnpike rides.

So, all in all, as with anything else, it's a compromise of your personal choice. Just enjoy the ride.

I moved mine down to below the eye line. I think, technically, the top of the shield is supposed to be 2" below your line of sight.

I have mine just in line with my nose and it seems to be fine for me, I don't mind a little bit of wind, ensures that you stay awake all the time.

Mine sits about 2 inches below my eyes. Fits me fine it came that way stock no adjustment was needed.

I have a tall Yami w/s, I have mine all the way down. I look through mine not over, I like it that way. It keeps almost all air off me, I'm an even 6' tall. I think it's just preference, where you like it best. But I'm very seldom right, according to the "war department".

I look through mine as well, only because it is a tall shield and adjusted all the way down and still not low enough for me to look over. I realize that it is safer to look over the shield than through it, especially at night but I haven't wanted to get a new one since this one is brand new, the previous owner had just purchased it and he was a rather tall guy, and I have not wanted to cut it down either.

I put up with it for now although it is not a bother at all and does help with the wind but not rain.
