I'd love to have your problem ... that being said, get the one YOU like. Period. I think we're all a little biased here. But probably not as much as a HD site.

They're both great bikes. I just bought a 2007 R* Midnight Silverado last month and my dad just bought a Harley Heritage Softail Classic. I'm almost a little jealous of his, only because if I had the cash to go HD, I would have got the same bike (but different color!).

get yourself a 07 roadie and take some of the money you save and make it your own...

Just like "inrut69", I too live about 30 miles from the Harley Holy Land, of Sturgis, SD...I think it's a law around here that you must ride a Harley...ha! But seriosly, I ride a Road Star because of the styling, reliability, power and lots of aftermarket offerings. If you buy into the whole biker image, get a Harley. But if you want a great engineering blend of all aspects, a Road Star is hard to beat!

I'm not having any luck finding it again, but bottom line was the Road King and Roadstar tied from the ratings done by their test riders. The RoadStar was given number one based on the price point. As I noted. both are great bikes. My next bike will be an HD, just because I want one havent owned one yet. But that being said, i love my roadie too. Its been a good bike.

Both bikes are great and you have to live with the decision. I've had HD's and was saving up for a Road King when I saw this (NOW MINE) Road Star and fell in love. My wife picked it out of the dealer lot as the perfect bike for me as well, which helped. For two years it was my only form of transportation, and it got me through all kinds of weather. My neighbor has a Road King and here are the differences we've found. I'm 6'4" and the Road Star is longer and gives me more comfort. I have fewer maintenance and service problems than she does. HD does stand for Hundred Dollars. Yami OEM and aftermarket parts are usually cheaper. HD aftermarket parts are more varied and available but that is changing. Used HD parts are more available. Only the experienced HD folks can tell that my Star is not a King. 1%'s are the only truly fanatic HD owners, they don't like Metric, but I don't ride with them. HD events are more plentiful and more fun than Yami events, but after I park who cares. After a few beers the HD folks say, nice bike.

A road king out the door is probably @ $22K depending on where you live, not including accessories. HD dealers don't haggle on price expect to pay full MSRP + their misc. tack ons. You can get a R* for about 1/2 that. You can haggle on a R* and get them to come down 20-25% off of MSRP. The RK will hold much of its value, and in 3 years, you can probably sell it for about $17K. The R* in 3 yrs will be worth about $7-8K. Insurance on a R* is cheaper also. With the savings, you could have the R* really decked out, custom paint, pipes, removable fairing (with stereo) or windshield, all the chrome you want, custom wheels and still have some $$ in your pocket for the savings.

Depends on if you really want the RK or not and if you want to justify the extra $$ for it. Some people can only have HDs. My neighbor is like that. AMF could buy them again, turn them to crap like they used to be and he'd still buy them. Don't know why that is. The image I suppose. If the image of HD is important to you get the RK. If you want to save money, get the R*.

It all depends on how you look at it and what's important to you. The money or the image.

well I've wieghed everything here,I've found a great deal on a 2001 RK with 7k miles for 13 grand but I hate the paint job however it has all the upgrades that I would have to get and I'm personal friends with the guy and I know he takes care of that bike. I've priced a paintjob with another friend and he says anything I can find besides flip flop paint he will do for $1000 any grphics I want.

However I fell absolutly head over heals stoopid when I saw the 08 R* S. I can save the money I would spend on an 07 king and dump it into the star to make it bada$$

I want the star and the king,LOL what do I do

I read in a message on this thread get the one that looks back at me the best. Well it's the star for sure

I read that same article, I think the majority of the riders, 4 out of 5 took the Road Star for one reason or another if I remember right, I subscribe to that rag and read it cover to cover.
