Harley Road King Hard bags 3 Months ago
I bought a set of Road King hard bags some years ago and got them cheap because they had been run into by a car. The bags are not beat up too badly at all; a good body man could have them looking good in no time I would think.

Here's the question, what do you think it might cost to get them re-fiberglassed and painted? They are cracked at the back - but not bad. I would also get them painted a two-tone color to match the bike. And then, of course the brackets would have to be moved, lowered, and fabricated to the bags... and I would have to buy new pipes - doolies perhaps - to accommadate the lowered bags.

Considering hard bags can be upwards of $700, I am thinking I can take the Road King bags which have such sweet lines and spend some money on them.

What do ya think?

They are typically great looking bags. I guess that depends on how close you are to a body guy that will work on them. Mine here paints my stuff pretty cheap and does a great job, but we are life long friends. I got my fairing and trunk painted to match my bike and clear coated for $50.00 each. They more storage than mine do and would look great... now.. you have another $500 or more in the exhuast change out... probably $100 in the brackets... $300 in the emergency room bills when you punch something in frustration during the assembly.. Sounds like a plan!

I personally like the look of the RK bags and what I expect would be the extra space as well. I'd price it out if I were me and at least see if it's worth doing.

Here's a link to making the hard bags fit.

Don't know how handy you are, but fibreglass work is not all that hard. might want to give it a shot yourself, and then have a pro paint them for you..

... but 'glassing is toxic. Make sure you work in a well ventilated area.

... and the glass fibres (and resin to some extent) will irritate your skin ... think fibreglass insulation.

Remember when you do it and get all the single strands all over the place, including covering you. first time I ever tried it was about 20 years ago. things are different now. but yes... you need Air!

Used to use a acetone in the lab to dry the glassware.
