PMS Adjustment Question 3 Months ago
|
|
I'm currently trying to dial-in my carb. My buddy has told me that I need to turn my PMS out 1/4 turn, as I need to try and richen my mixture some. He stated that turning out is counter-clockwise.
OK, got it. But here's the question, when sitting in front of the carb, with it mounted on the bike and placing the screwdriver fromthe bottom into the PMS screw, which way is counter-clockwise?
I'm thinking that it's turning the screwdriver handle to the left.
Thanks!

Just turn it the same way you would if you were unscrewing it to take it out. Technically it's counter clockwise whether the carb is on the bike or not. What makes your buddy think you need to go richer?

Thanks Musky.
Right now my plugs are a chalky white, which indicates burning to lean. Needing to richen it some.
I just replaced the accelerator pump, as it was found to be faulty. At that time we also found that the adjustment for it was way off. My former plugs were 'black', and now running with brand new plugs and trying to dial things in.
I'm running with stock carb, air box, and pipes. However, then pipes have had the Stage 2 modification applied.

RIGHTY=TIGHTY LEFTY=LOOSEY. If the carb is stock you may have to remove it to remove the PMS plug.
Do yourself a favor and invest in one of these from Barons BA-2150-00. The PMS is a real PITA to adjust while the carb is on the bike. I have one now and life is a lot easier.

Just how easy is the Baron's screw to reach? does it stick below the carb much?

It's not like a staples "easy button" , but it is much better than lying on the ground with a small screwdriver. BB

Almost level with the fuel bowl drain bolt. I can reach it with my fingers (I have a BAK) but not without touching the exhaust.

I just put one in this week and I like it, I do have to pop my air filter off to get to it, but my god is it easy, if you plan on riding in the winter months your going to want that for sure depending on where you live.
You'll be tweaking and adjusting!!
