Welcome to the clinic, like everyone is saying, you would actually have to try to get one to over heat, damn hard to do. Unless something is wrong with it. How is it acting?

The best way to check for over heating is to roll up your right pant leg and to hold your ankle against the exhaust pipe for about 3 seconds. If it sizzles, she's too hot.

Just checking to see who's awake .....

And FYI

The R* does run cool for a big V-twin that is air cooled.....it is a combination of new and larger fin area..composite cyls... and dry sump oil circulation...that is one thing I did notice with the R*... she gets hot but not as hot as
a...... ...son..

there is an oil cooler out there with a built in oil temp guage...but IMHO I dont think an oil cooler would make that much difference...but the oil temp guage would be an idea..

oil cooler

I would like to put an oil temp gauge on my R*. Are there any after market temp gauges out there? I have been searching without any success.

By the way... welcome to the clinic.

My bike is runing fine. I just wanted to know what symptoms I should look for since there is no temperature gauge.

For example when you see the temperature in a car go up you pull over, but since there is no temperature gauge it is hard, or at least hard for me to tell.

Re:How do you know it is overheating? 3 Months ago
as mentioned, you'll feel a lot of heat coming off of the bike. Your inner thighs will be very warm and your crotch will get toasted too. This will most likely happen only when you are sitting in traffic on hot days. Once she get's under way again, she'll cool down. You could look into a oil temperature guage like pop said if you're really worried about it. I don't think many here are.
