4stroke and 2stroke have different classes. 250-2stroke = 450-4stroke, 125-2stroke = 250-4stroke. i believe a CR80 is about equal to a 125 4stroke if they even make them. displacement doesnt really matter much. of course a CR500 is faster than a CR450F, but a CR450F is equal to a CR250.

2stroke ruled motox for years due to lighter bikes, quick power. 4strokes have lightened up majorly in the past 5-10 years and are now preferred over 2 strokes due to torque.

sold my CR250 about 2 years ago because I couldnt keep up with 4strokes and decided to invest all my time in my street bikes.
The CR80R 2 stroke will dust the 4 stroke DRZ 125 hands down no comparison at all..

My brother gave me - yes, GAVE me! - an RM-80 (he was going to give me a CR-125, but changed his mind) a long time ago. Anyway, that was one FAST little bike! I forget what year it was, but it was the year before they came out with the "full floater" rear suspension. My size (I was 20-something years old) and the short suspension made it absolutely scary!! It was sure fun for a scream down a dirt road, though!!

Glad to see you went with the CR. Your son definitely looks like he knows how to handle a bike!! Congrats to him!!
Actualy both are my sons. He stays on the rear tire with the Suz and likes to jump with the CR80 since it has more power and better suspension. We dropped a tooth on the front sprocket on the 125 so he can pop it up and ride on the rear tire in 3rd gear and not wind it so tight.

The rascal has broken both arms and his collar bone and says it only hurts for a little while and no one knows if you don't tell them. LOL
He wants me to get a dirt bike and go to the track with him I said I am to old and don't want to get hurt. LOL

Looks like fun at your place Stumpman! Sold my last dirt bike about 5 years ago. I was an Avid dirt rider for years. My last bike , a 501 Husaberg (4 stroke) , was so fast , that my 2 stroke buddies who rode it where scared of it. That was a hoot! Had my share of 2 strokes , but found that the low end power made by the 4 strokes was a more tractable ride in typical southeast woods riding. Miss those days........was just Lamenting to my Wife today how If we could get a little property , I'd love to get back to riding dirt again. We'll see. Good to see your little one having fun though , he'll certainly be a future rider..... BB

Had a 350 , then graduated to 501. Got a ton of pictures , but they are the real thing , not on the computer. Ducati , unknown to them , did the world a huge favor leaving behind a bunch of angry Husky 4 stroke engineers........ BB

My last dirt bike was a RM 125. Like Big Bear, I always prefered 4-strokes for the all-around usable power. But then again, a 12,000 rpm screamer is sorta fun too!!

As far as two strokes go there were some stump pullers out there. I raced Maico 400s and 450s in the 70s out in Southern Cal. Second gear starts on a four speed from the starting gate was never a problem. My last dirt bike was a 490 Maico. I would put that against any big 4 stroke. Eventually the two stroke was doomed to emmision standards.
