Re:Marvel Mystery Oil 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I don't know if one thing has anything to do with another other than when I purchased my Roadie used, the fellow before me was using ring free. Since Ive owned this bike I changed plugs, Switched to Mobil 1 15w50, added only four quarts and drove this baby and have put above 5000 miles on it. Adjusted my pms and accelerator pump duration and am getting 44.6 mpg. No svs but fuel gauge sending unit has gave up the Ghost. I was just wondering if adding Seafoam, Ring free, MMO or any other additive to the gas may have anything to do with poor fuel gauge sending unit performance or longevity.

I think the sending units are just not very robust. Mine died as well, and I'd probably only used MMO in mine maybe 4 times by then. I don't think the previous owner used any additives since he didn't really ride it that much.

Anything is possible though.

Well thats pretty much the same here. The previous owner only put 9000 miles on it in three years. Just wondering.

I use sea foam every once in a while. here's what I know...hang on, lemmie get a beer.

ok.

I have a friend who is an outboard marine engine mechanic for suzuki motors. he swears by sea foam. before he even attempts a tune up on an engine, he takes the fuel bowl off the filters and fills them with strait sea foam. usually about 1/2 - 1 pint. then he runs the engine w/ strait sea fom thru it. i've watched this process take a coughing, non idling rough running engine, to steady if not much smoother idle. amazing.

as far as the engine case goes he uses it as a cleaner. since sea foam is designed to break up the gunk and clean engine internals, u don't want to leave it in there very long. all that gunk's gotta be goin somewhere...the filter. be prepared to change oil AND filter again after use.

I have ran 2 oz in my crank case and changed at a 100 miles. i have an 05 rs, and did this more for peace of mind than as a fix.

Besides Mark7's 2 oz. every other tank, does anyone else add it, I was looking at the bottle and it says 4 oz. per 10 gallons(glad I didn't just dump the whole bottle in the tank and call it good)...Please lemme know what you think.

I'm having a hard time understanding how adding Sea Foam to the gas is going to help you with SVS. I have been using Sea Foam for years and am a true believer in the stuff.
I have added it to the oil in my truck by the bottle and drove for 50 miles and changed the oil and I have over 130,000 miles on it and its running great.

I understand putting it in your tank to clean the carb.
But to put it in the gas to clean the valves is puzzling me. The only part that it could possibly clean is where the gas passes the seating. Is that where the Sticky part comes from..

    That's more or less correct.

You can also do a quick 'tune-up' by shooting some top end cleaner (like Seafoam) through the carb.

I realize no stupid questions, just stupid people, but This may be a little of both...
  • What do you guys use as a handy way to measure, or do you even measure. Can I just dump a little in there before I fill up and Guestimate 4 oz. or should I get a little shot glass or something? Just wondering. Thanks guys.
