Comment on fuel filter and jetting 5 Years, 6 Months ago
Went to go to the Picnic.Bike coffed, backfire, then through carb then died.about 3 blocks from house.Had to use the choke full on to get her home.Today checked
what I suspect the culprit was ,Fuel filter. While test riding after replacing
noticed could not get the bike to 115mph with new jetting, tho midrange was fine.
Was suprized since I just went up from a DJ175 main to a DJ195 main. But did
remember that I went to 3rd clip on needle.Did not think it would take that much off the top end(105)(I like being able to go 115 when needed)so when bike cools off plan on setting the needle to 4th groove.

After setting needle to 4th groove, still had a hard time getting to 115mph.
Then after my turn around point an the way back it picked right up,leaving me to beleave maybe the float bowl was having a hard time filling up

Post edited by: vegasdave, at: 2006/11/06 11:59

DANG Vegas. Your bike was running fine and all of a sudden it blew the carb off from a backfire? I don't see a fuel filter causing that. They usually don't go from OK to that bad all at once. Are you sure you don't have a cracked manifold or a bad air leak somewhere? If you are talking 105 vs 115 mph you must be talking full twist, right? Isn't that past the needle / main overlap and on the main? Hope you get it all squared away so that doesn't happen to you anymore. Let us know as I'm always ready to hear and learn about stuff like this.

Post edited by: Musky, at: 2006/11/06 07:42

Maybe your finding out that you've went so far to avoid starving the bike of gas you are drowning the poor girl. Just a thought.
