Well guys, spend a little time over at http://forums.delphiforums.com/DarkSiding/start and you can find the sizes and models working best for the guys that are already running CT's. I have about 11,000 miles before I can get one on the Roadie but the Venture should have one sometime soon.

I may gave that a shot... never having had to replace a bike tire, what do they typically cost?

Quality bike tires such as an Avon Venom... $140-$190 more/less...depending on where you buy them, size, etc.
Car tire... $35-$85 depending on brand, size, etc. And they report some of the less expensive ones do better.

TiresUnlimited.com has an ME880 Metzler for my Venture for $160.
Local tire store has 2-3 brands of 165/80/15 car tire for it for $40-$80.

Does anyone know if there is CT with a wide whitewall profile... and because every white wall car tire I've ever owned was plain on one side so as to be reversible... is there the possibility of some type of paint for the plain side? Sounds silly perhaps, but that is really the limiting factor to me considering a CT for some point in the future. The ww is not as noticeable on the rear... especially to the left side of the bike, so maybe a "painted" whitewall might be a possibility...?

I mean, you could just jack the thing up on blocks, put it in gear and apply an appropriate width paint brush of white paint to the sidewall while the tire rotates.

Just trying to think outside the box because this car tire issue is pretty interesting.

Nope. No car tires on my bike. I used to run a large truck fleet and learned more about tires than I ever wanted to know. The one thing that really stuck is just how specific tires are to function and intent.

We all like saving a buck but when it comes to tires, brakes and steering you best open the wallet. Those are the three mechanical areas that can get you killed if they fail.

I forget what they are called but there are add-on(glue-on?) whitewalls available. In the decades past they were pretty much junk and would curl or fall off but are supposed to work well now. Do a little research and you should find some info on them. And I'll see what I can find.

Here is a link to some good paint. http://www.mbzponton.org/valueadded/other/tirepaint.htm

LakeCharles,
The prices are more inline with M/C tires but this site has radial CT's that have a whitewall vulcanized to the tire.
http://www.diamondbacktires.com/pricelist_13_14_15_DiamondBackI.htm Edit: I just realized it's only one side but they may do both sides on order. Can't hurt to ask)
You aren't saving any $$ initially but you'll be getting 3-4 times the life over a MC tire.

Wow Big boy.... thanks so much; I had no idea there was a product like this; actually I was prepared to be scoffed at to some degree!

Man, that product seems like it might be just the ticket!

Thanks again.

True enough Big Boy. Yes, the prices are in line with MC tires but there would surely be an increase for the other side ww I would think.... Worth looking into for sure.

I will have to see what CT size I would need and then give them a call.

One thing I noticed was that they use the wording "non- aggressive" side wall, I wonder what exactly that means? I'll have to ask them.

For sizes check the Yamaha section over at http://forums.delphiforums.com/DarkSiding/start
They are using up to a 195 width with no rubbing or problems.
