Air Cleaner Options for 1700 Road* 5 Years, 6 Months ago
Roadies:

What aftermarket air cleaner options, for a 1700 Road*, will mount closer to the engine than the stock setup?

If anyone is using a Yamaha Speedstar Competition Air Cleaner on the stock backplate, do you have close-up pix of your setup?

Thanks.

Ray

There are numerous options available many have a lower profile, in other words take up less lateral space than the stock air box.

I just installed the Barons Air Kit (BAK) and found that it protruded less by at least 1 inch perhaps more. My leg no longer rests against the air box. The BAK is high quality and easy to install. As you have probably gathered from this site if you change the air intake, you need to jet the carb.

CruiserBob:

I was hoping that there was a reasonable option which wouldn't show so much of the filter element as the BAK, when installed. Plus, I've heard RSR forum members complain about oil dripping onto their pipes and shabby filter cover construction, when using the Baron's BAK.

If I can't find another filter kit, then I'd consider the Poor Man's BAK for those very reasons.

Thanks.

No. All I see is four white boxes! I scrolled thru some other posts and see sig pics with no problem.

Hmmm... Maybe it's our network. I can check again from home tonight. Strange.

I'm very curious, now, to see your postings.

Musky:

No an option - our network nazi's have recently blocked "forums" in an effort to gain bandwidth on the network. Consequently, I can only access RSR forum from home.

Interestingly, I CAN see your sig pic. Hmmm.

Thanks for trying, though.

Roadkill:

I may have stumbled upon a clue - it looks as though I can see JPEGs, but not BMPs. Did you post BMPs?
