Baron's Big Johnson Bars 5 Years, 6 Months ago
Does anyone have the Baron's Big Johnson Bars, and if so, how do you like them? They are only listed as fitting up to an '03 R*, but can be used on later models using Baron's DT Risers (according to Baron's).

Will any risers do for my '04, or do they HAVE to be Baron's (which I rather doubt)?

TIA,

RK

You can use any risers as long as the hole that the bar goes through is compatible.

If you use HD risers then you will need to get a set of HD bushings for the trees.

Thanks, Doc--

Don't know what the major difference is that makes the Big Johnson bars fit '03 and earlier R*s WITHOUT Baron's DT Risers

They list the DT's as for '04 and later Road Stars, but if any risers will do...

Hi Roadkill:

I bought a pair of Big Johnson Bars earlier this year. The chrome was pathetic, so I ordered another set. The chrome on the second set was worse than the first! Both sets looked like rusted old bumpers so I didn't bother ordering a third set. I was a little disappointed, the bars would have looked great on the bike. They are huge compared to the stock bars. They are also a little wider. The risers on your bike are shaped slightly different than those on the earlier models but you could replace them with risers from an earlier R* if you like the look & want to keep the same height. Possibly you could find a used set from a '99 to '03 model. Hope this helps you out a bit.

Gary--

THANKS...that was definitely helpful! I wouldn't have expected shoddy quality from Baron's, but that's good to know.

I already have a brand new set of OEM Yamaha Road Star Bars I'm ready to put on in place of the stock bars, but was wondering about the Baron's bars. Only real difference is the Johnson's are 38" and 1.25" thick, and the Yami bars are 3-5/8" rise, 12" pullback, 33-5/8" width, AND require no special risers, etc. And the chrome is beautiful. Guess I should be happy with the bird in the hand.

Thanks again!

Just picked up a set of Big Johnson bars that I ordered from Phat's Performance - got them today and did the install. The chrome looked great and the bars are huge! The 1 1/4 bar really goes well on the front of the Roadie. They feel really comfortable and they worked with stock lines, although it is tight. As far as risers go, I was able to pick up a set of stock 03 risers for $10 that I put on my 06. But after doing all the work I realized that my 06 risers would have worked but I think that the two piece with the Big Johnson bar looks nicer than the shape of the one piece due to the slanting on the one piece riser - just my opinion. Anyways, I am really glad that I purchased the Big Johnson bar. I purchased a Starbar from Baron's two months ago but hated the look of the one inch bar, so I sold the Starbar and got the Big Johnson - I ended up losing about $30 on the whole thing but I am happier with the Big Johnson so the money isn't that big of a deal.

Blessings,
BP

BP--

So, you found the height of the stock risers to be satisfactory...no need for 4" risers or anything like that? If you don't mind my asking, how tall are you and how long are your arms? Just wondering, because I'm 6'2" and take a 37" sleeve on shirts.

Thanks for the input!

Roadkill-

I think that it comes down to personal comfort. I am 5'11" about 180lbs with a 35 inch arm (at least that's what my shirt says) . I would think that if you added a four inch riser that the bars would be a bit high but that is just me, you might really like them - afterall some guys won't ride with anything but ape hangers. I would get the Big Johnson bar and install it with the stock risers and see how you like it, you can always buy 4" risers in the future. Be aware that if you change out the risers you will have to extend your lines. With the Big Johnson bar I have used up all my extra slack.

Blessings,
BP

BP--

Thanks for the reply. As we speak, I am on the hunt for some stock chrome '03 or earlier R* risers to use with the Big Johnson bars on my '04. I REALLY don't want to have to get extended lines & cables...

Thanks!
