Cable Sheathing 3 Years, 4 Months ago

...or whatever it's technically called.

I have an '06 RS with the braided throttle and clutch cables. I'm ready to install my Nostalgia bar and thought it would look so much nicer without the plastic sheathing on those cables.

Over time, the plastic sheathing has turned a little milky.

It looks like the cables underneath have a coating on them already and I'm wondering if the extra plastic sheathing is really necessary. The cables underneath look oh so pretty without the extra plastic.

Anyone ever remove this sheathing? Any problems?
