#120774 Greeny (User) Expert Boarder Posts: 502 Cable Sheathing 3 Years, 8 Months ago   ...or whatever it's technically called. I have an '06 RS with the braided throttle and clutch cables. I'm ready to install my Nostalgia bar and thought it would look so much nicer without the plastic sheathing on those cables. Over time, the plastic sheathing has turned a little milky. It looks like the cables underneath have a coating on them already and I'm wondering if the extra plastic sheathing is really necessary. The cables underneath look oh so pretty without the extra plastic. Anyone ever remove this sheathing? Any problems? What you can do is remove the plastic from all areas where is free and leave it on where it touches the frame or the tree. You can also remove all of it and in the critical parts replace it with new clear plastic hose. I've done that where my control cables (they're sheathed with SS) cross through my upper tree. You can see it unless you look close. Do the stock cables have some kind of coating over the SS? Sure looks like they have something on them like they've been dipped in some thin plastic coating. Wasn't sure if that's enough to protect things. I'll probably just trim them down as you say. That would look 100% better! Almost all SS cables have a plastic coating to protect the paint and chrome .... normally it just plastic tubing. The sheathing is getting cloudy on my clutch and it appears to be getting some kind of black colored, probably a fungus growing under the protective sheathing.
