Saddlemen Seats 2 Years ago
Hi guys,

Love this forum for useful info!!

I've been reading about after market seats and hear a lot about Mustang, Corbin, and Ultimate.
But I'm curious to hear what you think about the Saddlemen seats.
Especially the Solo.

Any and all opinions and comparisons are welcome!!

Nazuma--

I've personally never met anyone with a Saddlemen seat, but that doesn't really mean too much. The big aftermarket ones, as you said, are Corbin & Mustang, although if you search the forum archives here, I KNOW I've heard Saddlemen seats mentioned. Looney makes a damn fine seat, too, from what I understand. No one seems too crazy about Mustang, though...

You might want to be checking eBay for your Saddlemen... I found this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Saddlemen-Seat-with-Saddlegel-for-Yamaha-Road-Star-1600_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35589QQhashZitem110056862874QQihZ001QQitemZ110056862874QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

That one was not exactly a solo, but I did find a Looney solo, WITH the comfort gel installed: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Custom-Looney-Seat-for-Yamaha-Roadstar_W0QQitemZ250048902819QQihZ015QQcategoryZ35589QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

And Brutha, if you're out there, I hope you weren't watching THOSE, too...that'd be my luck!

Anyway Nazuma, I wish I could be more help on the Saddlemen...

RK

PS I LOVE my Corbin! Or should I say, my ass does...

Post edited by: Roadkill1962, at: 2006/11/18 21:48

Hey Nazuma!

Don't have much input for ya on the Saddleman...not had or seen one. Do have the Corbin, Can's say enough good things about it!!! It is stiff, but we rode 2kmi in 9 days this summer and neaver dreaded getting back on in the morning.

I have Yamaha's comfort custom solo and matching pillion pad (studded),,,,their made by Corbin 4 Yamaha, a bit pricey but extremely comfortable seat,,,,, firm but good support , you sit in it rather than on it,,,,,hated my stocker, made like shit,,,,extremely cheaply processed,,,think the pan is even plastic not fiberglass...lmao. I rode a few bikes with corbins on them before I purchased my seats..... best way to make up your mind,,,,,,and in my mind where your ass meets the bike is a VERY important item. Would'nt let the price make the decision for you,,,,,a inexpensive 1st purchase,,,,,,,,,,, will get very expensive if it's totally uncomfortable,,,,,,going through the return process and losing the shipping costs,,, then back to square one of finding something that fits you. Happy hunting :-D

I have a saddlemen on my bike, the solo in fact. My second seat from them, the first was without studs, sold that, got the Yamaha Dual cruiser seat with double back rests, since I ride solo 99 percent of the time, I got the studded saddlemen solo. Drops you about 1 inch further towards terra firma, excellent quality and comfort, I highly recommend them.

Regards,
Scott

I am currently running the Saddleman Solo seat. It drops you down a bit, moves you forward a touch. It is actually the most comfortable seat I have had to date. The just wish they had a driver backrest option.

EDIT: It is not the one in my sig pic. That is the corbin solo which was the most uncomfortable seat I had. Best looking solo seat in my opinion though.

Post edited by: USAFRETIRED, at: 2006/11/21 23:51

Nah Roadkill I gave up on the Corbin and bought a Diamond custom seat with pillion pad. I have more flexibility. Can set it up for solo or two up.

The passenger pillion is a little too long and pushes on my back but I am going to modify that by shortening it up. Talked to the folks at Diamond and they told me what to do. I'll probably use my stock seats around town and the Diamond when touring. The Diamond doesn't push me as far forward as the Mustang which I like. The seat has a ridge at the back that gives me something to push against for stability when I want it.

From the posts I have seen and the large numbers of relatively new seats that change hands it appears that finding the right seat is a real hit or miss proposition. If you get all the comfort then the look isn't what you want. If you go for look then you lose ridability. It's a balancing act for sure. What feels good to me won't feel good to you. I would like a seat that puts me down in the pocket off of the gas tank and comfortable enough to ride all day. Looks impossible to me.

Going to try the Potato Chip from Pacific Coast and see what that is like.

I must be the only R* owner on earth that thinks the stock seat is fine. Granted my longest ride has only been 200 miles but it seems "okay". I plan on making a run to Florida (600+ miles one way) next spring, that may change my opinion.
