Where do you guys come up with this stuff.

Looks clean too.

Can't imagine why but clean it up and bolt it back up. Drive it for a while and check it again.

Sometimes life is a mystery.

Hey TEK got you pm. Yep that is just what it is plus a little water. The oil and water is from the crankcase vent line that was connected to your carb. Take the vent line off and put an extension on it and run it down the backbone under the tank and and down by the battery to the bottom of the bike. Put any kind of filer on the end of it (I used a small metal fuel filter)as it needs to vet to the atmosphere. The slide in the carb also needs to vent to atmoshpere and it will have a small black L shaped plastic piece with nothing on the end of it. If there is a hose on it it shouldn't have it on it. Just clean the top of the carb out and put it all back togeather. Reading your post you are running about the same setup as I am but you haven't ported your manifold. I am running the 172.5 main and a 40 pilot. If you have problem you may want to set you needle to slot 3 with white spacer and 2 silver washers lke mine. Good luck and have fun with your carb (I do) or shoud say I did.

Re:Oil in top of carb 3 Years, 8 Months ago
new problem. i installed a pair bubb jug hugger exhausts w/ baffles.

after i installed the bub jug huggers exhaust w/ baffles. turned it on, hit the starter, bike would not start. had to open pms out from 2.25, to 3.5, and fully open enricher to start bike. after warm up bike idled ok. but if you try to increase rpm, either with throttle or idle adjustment, bike will choke and cough and eventually die. Rolled throttle very slowly, and any increase that requires more than idle circuit cause the bike to stall. it is displaying the characteristics of starving for fuel.

Pulled off gas inlet hose at carb and turned on ignition. Fuel pump sprayed lots of fuel thru filter and hose.

went from 37.5 to a 40 pilot, no change. pms adjustment did nothing.

went from a 175 mk main, 3.5 on clip, to a 182 main, same clip position. Again no change, bike still chokes and dies if you increase throttle.

Went down to a 172 main, needle at 2nd clip, bike idles same but revs ok with enricher all the way out. Pops and backfires a little.

Sprayed starting fluid around manifold, no leaks.

Bike ran great before I changed the exhaust. And that is all I did, change the exhaust.

Any suggestions?

thanks

tek

Did you make sure there wasn't any packing in the pipes when you put them on? I mean if the bike ran, you changed the pipes and it didn't run, I would be looking really hard at those pipes, see if there was something in them.
Take that baffle out if there is one.
Thats my best advice for now...

Plus after looking at those pictures, isn't something missing from the top of that carb? I thought there was a black cover over that housing for vacuum.
Am I wrong about that?
It almost seems like I am looking into your carb from the top, a person shouldn't be able to do that I don't think.
