HSR 42 5 Years, 6 Months ago

Bulldog has a new site on-line. His prices are great. I picked up an HSR 42 for Roadstars @ $320.00 USD. He is currently updating the site, so it may be down right now, but I would try in a day or two. I know everyone likes to get a deal once in a while and I think this is where you will find them.

Hey Doc....I still have the stock 40mm carb on my bike with all my goodies. Will the 42mm make that much of a difference in power and response over the stock one? Right now when my bike warms up, it runs like a "raped ape". I'm wondering if it will be well worth the cash to get a 42mm carb.

I've heard yes and no.
Best to put a post on the R* Riders Forum and get it from the horses' mouth. I know there's a number of guys running the HC/42 setup.

I have heard you will get better throttle response and the carb isn't as sensitive to changing temperatures as the stock mikuni. Also adjustments to the main can be done without having to remove the bowl. Just my $.02.

Well. someone has to say this.
If it's running good leave it alone.
If it ain't broke don't fix it.
Nobody listens but I think it's a rule that sombody has to say it.
I think there are a couple different 42's. One is supposed to be a bolt on and go (I think) and one you have to mess with.

Post edited by: Musky, at: 2006/11/27 19:15

Hi Beef:
Did the 108 kit made a big difference? Was it in the lower-third or mid and upper rpm range? Last but not least, did you try the 108 without all the other parts? Was looking for that mod. too since the dealer have to tear the bike down for the trannie anyway...
As for the HSR 42, I read on many HD site that the Keihin 40mm they use with an EVO can go up to approx. 100 HP before becoming a restriction. I know the Roadie is a different bird, but both engine are quite restricted regarding port work and exhaust valve size.
P.S.; Maybe a little dyno session would answer many questions and make a great holiday gift....
Tnx, de Stef

avn514.....up until the winter of 2005, I had all the mods listed except for the Bubs (had Nasty Habits before), dyna3000 (had a speedstar ignition), and the 108" big bore kit....before last winter's mods, I had some pretty good power....sure, I would stomp all over two of buddies' and their 01' and 03' roadies, not to mention after learning how really ride my bike I could stomp on my other buddy's Harley Deuce. But I gotta tell you what, this spring after installing those other mods and breaking my engine in, I literally had to re-learn to ride my bike. Especially adding the big bore kit, really gave birth to a whole new animal in my bike. I raced my buddy and his deuce last spring....we were cruising down the highway at 70-75mph and he decided to try to get the jump on me (which he did) but I didn't even drop down a gear and I caught him and I totally wasted him. So after all my babbling and now that its too late to make a long story short, the big bore kit made an extremely huge difference, and the power increase went throughout the whole powerband in every gear. It is well worth the cash if that is the kind of power you are looking for. HOpe this helps you out. Bulldog on the Barons sight told me that I should be pushing around 110hp with the mods that I have right now. I just need to find a dyno next year just so I can get some numbers.
