Crotch Rocket Crash 3 Years, 8 Months ago

Was on my way to work this morning red light to red light as always. Light change and suddenlt trafic stopped dead in all 3 lanes. Looked up and about 25-30 yards ahead was a bike laying in the road in the middle lane ahead of me. Guy jumps up and runs to the side of the road. People start piling out of cars to help. Woamn beside me starts honking her horn and yell at her SHUTUP and she cowers down behind the wheel then I pull over in front of her and pull in a parking lot. People are picking up pieces of the bike out of the road and the guy is to. Asked him if he was OK and what happend. He said the front end came up on him and that it was his buddies bike not his. Bet he didn't even have a license. My guess is to much bike for his riding experance or he was doing a wheelie. He only had a small scrath on his hand. I don't know how he got out with just a scratch. The bike was a compete mangled mess. Plastic doesn't hold up well. Made me think a little as I went on my way. Ride safe guys!

Whats amazing is the insurance rates those guys pay. have a friend w/ a HD Dresser, Honda sport tourer (is that the ST1100?) and a Honda CBR11000 crotch rocket. He tells me that the insurance he pays for the rocket is 2x more than what he pays for the other two bikes TOGETHER. On a recent vacation I had the opportunity to take my uncles CBR600 out for the day. They're fun for about 30 mins and then my nuts were vibrating so bad it was uncomfortable. And don't even think of going anywhere distance wise on one. Or sitting in traffic. Basically they're fun on a twisty road for about 30 mins..

They're fun bikes if you have the experience to ride them. I sold my CBR this summer, I enjoyed riding it a lot. I could ride for hours on it too. I just didn't need to pay insurance for two bikes at once and the CBR was a little small for my fat butt. Unfortunately too many young riders get them as their FIRST bike which is really dumb. My 2¢ anyhow.

Wow... now that's something. I work with a gal that has a Fat Boy and she ground the fender off riding wheelies. Not for me thanks. I am good going slow in a straight line...

Very fortunate young man. He is lucky he did not get run over. Good for you Curt to put that chick in her place.
I know this is going to raise some feathers but here goes-- I think this is the place where government needs to step in. It is becoming very clear in both of our countries that these young guns are not going to play nice on these machines. As we all know if you give a kid a powerful toy he will abuse it at some point. So I think there needs to be some very restictive rules put in place on the purchase of or power capabilities of these machines.
Here in Ontario we have graduated licensing but that makes no difference in the behavior from what I have seen. So to detune these machines electronically at the factory level may be the answer.
Here a young man can expect to pay upwards of $3000-5000 per year for insurance on an R1 or R6 but that seems to be no deterent to craziness.
I watched a dealer tell a guy about 19 years old to take it easy on his new rear tire. Kid said naw no problem. Well he slid across 4 lanes of traffic as he pulled out of the dealership wrecking his bike and himself.
