2000 Road Star recall..Yamaha won't help!! 3 Years, 8 Months ago
I just bought a used 2000 Road Star from a guy who bought the bike in Canada. I had new tires put on and the shop told me that there was a recall on this bike with a major recall regarding 10 service hours to fix the problem. I called Yamaha Canada and they said they do not authorize a repair to fix the recall since the bike is in the USA. I think I would have to go to Canada to have it fixed which is nuts since I live in the midwest. Has anyone had the same issue or know who I may be able to call to get this taken care of. From what i understand I could have the back tire lock up at any time while I am riding on the road.

Any help is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance for any assitance.

Glen

Just go to your local Yamaha dealer in your town. Where it was bought shouldn't change it.

Sounds like someone is dropping the ball here. I seriously doubt Yamaha wants a "defective" bike on the road , regardless of where you live. Contact your local Yamaha dealer , and explain it to them. If you get the run around there , then contact Yamaha directly.

I believe only 2 bikes were ever reported as locking up , but it's 2 too many. Hope this helps. BB

Welcome , by the way.

It should be a worldwide recall. It shouldn't matter where it was bought. Yamaha doesn't put different parts in an engine due to location. They do put different parts on the bike however to make it pass emissions. Call your local dealer and talk to them. Good luck. I really can't see Yamaha not taking care of this. Keep records in writing of this just to be safe though.

Just call or stop by your local dealer and give them your VIN #. They can look it up on the computer for you. No website that I'm aware of.

If you go to a Yamaha dealer and they tell you that, call another one!! Any Yamaha dealership that has a maintenance department can do the recall no matter where the bike was bought, who has it, or anything else.
Any other answer than "we would be happy to do that for you" is crap.

Unfortunatley this is true. I have been told this by dealers before when I inquired about buying a bike in the US and bringing it up here. I believe this is a protectionist issue with both countries.
This does not mean it cannot be done but finding a dealer that will beat on the mother ship may be difficult.

It all seems very contradictory because I came to the US and my bike broke down it would be covered.
