Fuel Pump Relay 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago
Been having problems with the fuel pump not working some times after sitting. At first I thought it was the extra conectors that I added to elec feeding the pump so I soldered them and things were fine for a long time. Today I went to go to work turned the key on and didn't hear the tick tick tick of the fuel pump filling the bowl again. I'm really hoping it is the fuel pump relay and not the fuel pump. Has anyone else had this problem?

I had problems with mine after about a couple of years. One of the reasons I move away form the stock pump.

The manual has the procedure on how to check the relay.

Yep Doc already looked at it didn't tell me to much except the meter readings I didn't already know. To beat to tackle it tonight so I will jump on it in the morning. As for dumping the pump I kind of like having a force feed system I know most of my old bikes have gravity feed but with this big engine I like it being forced to the carb. I do tend to crank it kinda hard, just ask BillJr. I was just wondering if the relay was a weak spot on these bikes and if many had problems with it. I'm sure I will know within minutes if it is the pump or the relay and can pick up a replacement if needed when I take my mom to the Dr. Still would like to hear from other with the problem just to get a count so to speak.

Curt--

My relay died one night at 11 pm. I've been pumpless ever since with no problems, even at 5100 RPM (with the large needle valve). Dead relay is still in the bike, fuel pump is on the shelf. And just FYI, there is a difference in relays for the 99-03s and the 04+ models...thought I could get a used older one cheap, but they're different.

Thanks RK but if it turn out to be the pump I may go the route Doc did with a vacuum pump.

Re:Fuel Pump Relay 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago
Well went out this morning and checked it before tearing it apart and she pumped and fired right up. Figured out it only happens when I take the tank off so it has to be an air lock in the fuel line. The pump has been relocated inside the right side cover so the fuel line is really long. Guess I need to figure out a way to purge the line if I take the tank off. SO if any of you guys have the same problem that is what is happening. If I figure out how to purge the line I will post it. ON THE ROAD AGAIN!

Hey curt get you a squeeze bulb off of a boat fuel line and put it between the pump and carb. Then if it acts up just pump the bulb
