Handlebar starts to wobble when I'm not holding it 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago
I was cruising home from work and was on a quiet road when I let go of the handlbars at around 50 mph just to see how she rode. The handlbar started to almost immediately slightly wobble and continued to wobble even worse until I grabbed back a hold of the handlbar.

I'm new to the cruiser bikes and never had this happen on my old crotch rocket. My Road* has a windshield and was wondering if maybe the wind it catches causes this or what else it could be? I bought the bike used and I just want to make sure this isn't a symptom of something serious like a possible loose attachment somewhere or a bent frame.

When I ride normal, the bike doesn't shake or rattle and it drives fine.

Mine also did the tank slapping wobbles. The bearings were lose, I tightened them to specs and the problem was gone. I can't remember the exact page but I found it in there. The gurus will be able to tell you more than I, but that was my problem. It's a fairly easy fix, it didn't take me very long to do it.

Well I did another search using some new keywords and was able to find a whole section of similar issues. My next question is, my wife and I already have a trip planned out this coming thursday which is around 230 miles each way. Like I said, the bike runs smooth as long as my hands are on the steering wheel. You guys think it's safe to make this trip and have it looked at after I get back?

There's no telling how long this shaking has been going on, I just discovered it today on the way home.

Front end wobble is never safe..might want to check your tire pressure, may have slung a balance weight, or like DJ said, the neck bearings could be loose or damaged, but in any case you need to find it and fix it... I know that's not what you wanted to hear, but you asked.......

First. Don't let go of the bars with both hands. Falling down hurts. Have you checked your tire pressure front and back? Is the rear wheel aligned good? Cupping?

I have been riding on 2 wheels most of my life, either bicycles or motorcycles. I am 65 years old and I have never let go of both handlebars at the same time! I have seen a couple of people go down because as well as not holding on they wern't watching where they were going and the front wheel hit something that caused a sudden turn and they were down before they could get hold of the bars. Also I have had the front tire on my R* blow out (I could hear the bang when it went) at between 60 & 65 MPH. I can assure you that you don't want that to happen if you arn't holding on!

Check your front wheel bearings as well. My right front went out (30 miles west of Kingman ,AZ). That was with 80K on the odometer though.

I have had the same wobble most likely since April when they changed the tire and added oil to front end did not notice it untill July going to Sturgis when I took my hands off the bars. Most llkely rode all season with it. I would think mine is safe since you don't notice the wobble unless you remove your hands from the bars. It handles fine. So I am waiting until next year to have them check it out. Might be the balance or the front end loose I don't think it is a big deal But if you feel uncomfortable check it out. I personally would not worry. Like I said If I am right and I had it since the wheel was put on I rode all season with no problem.

underdog mine has never done that but if you think it might be caused by the fairing remove it and take her for ride that would eliminate that

I used to do the same thing (occasionally... ) until I bought a set of Metzler tires... (There's a lot more about that in this thread... Click Here...)
