Windshield Bag 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago

Ok when I was in Myrtle Beach a couple months ago I picked up a generic set of windshield bags at Jamin Leather. There were three bags made onto a plastic piece. When I got home I realized that on the Roadstar we dont really have room for all three of them. They just dont fit behind the stock Silverado windshield. So I cut the side two off with a dremel tool and cleaned it up. Then I drilled two bolt holes into the bracket on the back of the bag. I was going to use the two center windshield bolts on the stock silverado windshield to hold it on. The ones that come through the chrome silverado piece on the front of the shield. They almost work. Just not enough threads stickin through to get the nut on. I need somethin just a 1/4 inch longer. The problem I have is I dont know where to get bolts that would match the other two on the front of the shield. It resembles a carriage bolt somewhat with an acorn on the back. Does anyone know if yamaha sells these in longer lengths or where I can get a decent substitute that looks the same?

You could take the acorn nut and go to most hardware stores and check in the metric section for a longer bolt and you could simply turn all of them around with the acorns facing out. just a thought.

Question: Does the bag have loops on the back, and if so, do they run top-to-bottom or side-to-side?
I ask because my windshield bag is a River Road...it's loops run side-to-side and did not line up with the windshield bolts. Soooo, I went to Home Depot and bought some black Velcro wire ties and looped them around the horizontal chrome trim on the inside of the windshield and through the loops on the bag. Still holding fast after 20-some thousand miles.

That's what I did...flipped all the shield bolts so the acorns face out. And it really doesn't matter if you use metric or SAE when its a bolt & nut combo. They sell them at Lowe's and Home Depot.
And I picked up on of those generic 3-bag windshield deals last year, and mine was for HD. I just drilled right through the shield, just above the Silverado chrome, and it works great!

RK,
You wouldn't happen to have a photo of your windshield bag installed on
you windshield would you? I sure am interested in this type of set up and would like to see it.
Thanks

I've got a Willie & Max bag that had two holes on each side. Took out the 2 center windshield bolts, ran a zip tie out the upper hole, behind the metal bar on the backside of the windshield and then back into the bag. Zipped it up, clipped them off and 5000 miles with no problems.
