Mine (06 Siverado) stopped the wobble when I changed my front tire...10600 miles on the factory tire, went to the Metzler and no shimmy. I do however feel like she is skating a bit compared to the factory tires.....but I have gotten used to it now. Ride Safe

The bearings were loose on mine, then I flat spotted the bearings and races. Had to have them replaced. If you feel it most on decel around 35 - 40 mph, I would be willing to bet they are loose. If you dont think you can tighten them, your local shop can do it for you about 20 minutes. I would have it done before your Ride if it was me.

Re:Handlebar starts to wobble when I'm not holding it 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago
I just felt it when I was cruising down the road not on decel. My throttle is a bit sticky since I tightened up the cruise lock. It will actually stay on speed when I let go of the throttle for a bit. So technically this wobble was occurring while at cruising speed.

javawave, if in fact it is the bearing, what is the worst thing that could happen during my ride? Something catastrophic that would cause a wreck or just more damage to something? I'm getting some mixed feedback on the ride. Some say not to worry about it, and others say to get it fixed before the ride. Which of course I would do if I had the time and money to do so before thursday.

I have a strong feeling that my bike has been doing this for the past 2000 miles or so I have put on it since I bought it. I just found out about it yesterday because I decided to let go of the handlebar for a minute.

I was already planning on buying a lift for my bike sometime soon so i could start doing my own maintenance and inspections on my bike because I know from past experiences with dealerships that they will con you in a second. It's bad enough that the hourly labor rate is freaking 85 dollars! Unbelievable.

For example, I called in to ask if they could extract a broken bolt from my bike real quick since they have the tools and I didn't (and I just spent over $600 in there) and the freakin guy told me it would cost $85 because it would take an hour! And I would have to drop the bike off for a day or two because they were backed up

I couldn't believe it. So a buddy of mine used some vice grips and took the bolt off in 30 seconds.

Anyway, back to topic... I know that just getting the bike to the dealer to look at the problem and fix what they say the problem may be, will run me at least $500.

I figure I'm just going to enjoy the ride, buy a lift when I get back, and start doing some testing myself to see what the deal is.

I can't tell you if it will result in more damage or not. I can tell you mine went down hill fast then they loosened up. It actually got scary. If it has been doing it for the last 2000 miles, you might be fine for your ride. for me it was a safety issue and I want taking the wife out on the bike with it in question. Mine got bad enough that it was even hard to hang on to with both hands. All in a matter of about 3 days. If it is loose, it will get more so, but how fast that will happen I can not predict. You will have to be the judge of that.

When my front tire went flat, the front end shook like a dog crappin' peach pits. This morning, I let go of the bars for a moment, at 65 mph, and it was just as sweet, smooth, and steady as could be. I don't plan on making a habit of this, though.

Are we talking about a steering wobble or just wildly oscillating handlebars? If I let go of my bars they shake the mirrors like crazy but that is normal but the front end is solid and tracks like it is supposed to.

How many miles do you have on your bike?

Wow I like all the opinions on here. Here's mine! I have everything on my bike that you can add. I can let go of my handle bars at any speed and there is no wobble!!!! I have 69,000 miles on the bike. I would not ride that bike anywhere until I fixed the problem end of story! If you ever go down on a motorcycle you will never second guess SAFETY AGAIN!!!!

Yep, when it doubt, dont ride. Have the bearings checked. If it still wobbles and its the tires, that may be different. But I would have to at least know why before I take off on a ride.

My bike has 36k miles on it. 2001 Road*.

If it is the bearings, are there any other signs that would be present besides the wobbling? Noises?

I just bought a bike jack today. Aside from taking the wheel off, are there any tests I could do to narrow down what it might be?
