Getting the air filter cover off 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago
|

Last night, I thought I'd check my air filter and see if it needed cleaning. I removed the bolt in the center of the cover, and the three cap screws at the corners. It still wouldn't come off. What am I missing?

You need to remove the hoses from the manifold behind the airbox and then flip the airbox over and you will see the screws to pull it apart. If you doing all this, you might want to think about replacing the stock junk filter with a K&N filter..you will never need to buy one again, you just clean it and keep going.

There are hoses going to the carb also. Then there is 3 screws on the back side of the filter box holding the cover on too.

If you're still venting to the air box, don't be supprised if the filter falls apart on you. Oil from the breather hose destroyed the glue holding the filter together on mine. I have since re-routed the breather to the bottom of the bike to keep the oil out of the air filter.

Hey 2000Roadie, Did you have to re-jet when you replaced your air filter? I've heard this allows more air flow.
