javawave said: if I am running along and crack the throttle and bike feels like its chugging for a second, I figure I am lugging it. If I get that snappy take off. I am right where I want to be.

I think you hit it on the head. It depends on air/engine temperature, gear, load, speed, wind and *style* of riding. A rider should adjust engine speed to demand.

I agree with Java, if I crack the throttle, she should move out smartly or at least not complain on the way up.

However, if I'm running on a flat road and in no hurry, I can run her at lower RPMs/higher gear as long as I'm not pushing. I can maintain mid 40s in 5th comfortably on the flats, but need to downshift if I want to move out!

BTW -- Since I had SVS I have been running at higher RPMs than I did previously which translates into more fun!

guess it helps if you start out in the right gear. Here lately, I've been starting in 3rd gear. Bad habit forming. I usually downshift to 1st at lights & stop signs.

I have a tach and find that below 1800 seems to be lugging if I try to accelerate, it is ok for a very slow roll on on flat ground but it needs to be 2000 or more to move out. also shifting below 3000 in 1st & 2nd seems clunky and a two notch process, at 3000 and above it is very sweet, super smooth gear change. Acceleration on my bike seems to drop off about 3500, is this normal?
